Last night I was reading "The Magic of Alan Wakeling" and I got to thinking about the classics of magic. When I was a kid I had the appearing/disappearing candles and canes, but one I did not have was the Dancing Cane. As I was thinking of this amazing effect I started to feel the urge to learn this effect and create a routine for it. My question to you all is...
What is the best way to start out with this effect? I have searched around and found they range from $12.99 to a couple hundred dollars. Is there a good one on the market that won't break my bank and last awhile? Also, is this restricted to stage/platform or can this be done outside? Thank you, John. |

Thank you. After seeing some posts in other topics I do know that I want to perform it slowly. I have the routine in mind, now I just have to make it reality,

Precision magic without a doubt. The best dancing cane around.
Get the dvd along with it also. I have had mine for almost three years and it works great. Very durable. Best Brandon

Thanks, I was looking at that one and thought it might be better due to being one piece as opposed to the cheaper two piece ones.
Can this effect be performed outdoors? John |

I have never performed it outdoors, but I would think the best time would be at night...I have performed the effect in the middle of crowded dance floors, on many stages and even under fluorescent lighting. Dim, colored lights are one thing, but also experiment with different colored t****d, based on the color of your background. Also, if no backdrop exist but you have say, tan carpet then wear a tan shirt, and get tan you-know what to match. If you think about the color scheme of the performance room, the you could very easily perform this effect without detection.
Hopes this helps, Brian(WizardB) |

I also use a vanishing cane, so as to aid in the clean up. What I was speaking of is closer to a walk around performance than stage, so a quick disposal of the cane is a smart idea. So I use a vanishing cane and tape the stuff to the inside. Prepare the cane, find the balance point, then attach the stuff to the inside at that point.
Hope this helps! WizardB P.S. I will probably get in trouble for telling you this...attempt at your own risk... |

For the dancing cane, I purchased Precision Magic's and the DVD. Both are fabulous, and you won't go wrong with these. The DVD goes into extensive detail on the various moves. Unfortunately, though, on some things you will still have to experiment and figure out some things even after watching the video.
To master the dancing cane will take many hours of practice. Anything less than this, and the effect will not be deceptive. It will be obvious to have the audience that you merely have a "stick on a t****d". When mastered, however, the dancing cane truly is wonderful to watch. Even when you know how it is done, it still has very strong visual appeal. Unfortunately, though, anything more than 40 seconds is overkill. If you are looking to perform outside, or perform closeup, I'd recommend the Losander Dancing Wand. This is a light weight balsa wand that uses almost invisible thread. You cannot do all of the moves of the dancing cane, but it comes fairly close in many aspects. |

Work out a finale for the dancing cane routine:. e.g. would be multiplying the canes.

I just watched Precison Magic's DVD and it is great. I also watched Jeff McBrides and it was ok, but not covered in very good detail.
