I had to watch that through my fingers. Almost regurgitated myself.

I saw this guy on T.V. before. He said he learned this skill from growing up in a tough environment (somewhere in Scotland). He was bullied - kids would steal his lunch money. He found a place to keep his money safe - in his stomach.
Kids do the wackiest(?) things sometimes ... and sometimes they continue to do them as adults.

Even if false this is a great story to tell to explain your regurgitation skills

My god - I never even thought the story could be false! For real!

Maybe because you are so naive ...

I could never do this kind of thing. I would get that ball/sugar whatever up, but whatever else I had in the last 24 hours would follow right behind it. I am curious though. Can someone actually learn that kind of stuff? If so what goes through your mind right before you swallow a light bulb for the first time?

Hello again. The naive butt-head returns.
The vid reminded me of another effect I saw on the Tom Green(?) show a few years ago - you know the guy who used to be married to Drew Barrymore and appeared in Road Trip. This guy ate a light bulb (or at least the glass portion of it) - and appeared to chew the glass. Tom asked won't it cut your insides? or isn't it cutting you? The guy responded affirmative. Wish I knew how that one was done. S**** G****? I think Dr Bob used to do something similar in his stage act.

Oh yeah, afterthought. I think maybe the reason why I took the guys pseudo(?)-explanation to be convincing was that he was regurgitating gold fish. Now ... I can't imagine a bit of string being attached to a live gold fish ... but then again I am a person of limited imagination ... and experience.

Eating glass, while dangerous, is well within the grasp of anyone. The only requirement is that one needs to lack a certain amount of intelligence.
I, for one, would never be caught eating glass. However, I am known to roam freely chewing and digesting light bulbs, broken bottles, and various beverage containers. To learn ole' Stevie's trick would be true treat. However, I wouldn't bother with coins by number or date (something he does in another video on youtube), I would "call up" the different ingredients of the last meal I ate. Enticing. /paul.f |

Saw him on Paul Daniels years ago.Houdini practiced regurgitating small potatoes so it wouldn't matter if he lost them. As for swallowing broken glass, Supreme Magic sold a book years ago on how to do, and eating molten lead, and putting a cigarette out on your tongue.

The best 'magic' is that which truly appears real.
That's why sponge balls don't do it for a lot of people, and regurgitation acts and mentalism do. For me he stretched the bounds of plausibility with the sugar. Still, he's good. Fakir stunts certainly can have a place in a mentalist's act. DB has even ventured into this territory with the block head and lying on glass (stage show). Unfortunately because of this thread all the world wide copies of the Swami Mantra will be bought up. |
