I am blessed to be in a relatioship with a beautfil woman. She comes from a background in entertainment and has a wonderful stage presence. Although, she has NO experience in Hypnosis, or Magic, I would like to somehow include her in my hypnosis act. Can anyone provide any examples of a performer using an assistant in hypnosis and how did they use them?
Thanks. |

You are only limited by your imagination, and her abilities.

My wife helps in my shows. She runs the sound. Watches the volunteers so that we have 2 sets of eyes instead of 1 to catch those that are just pretending and for safety reasons also. She helps during the induction when I say I'm going to come around and touch their hand and their body will collapse into their laps, I run the front row and she runs the back row. Their eyes are closed at this point so they don't know the difference.
She also starts the camera just before the show starts and runs back to run the BOR table at the end of the show while I mingle with people who want to meet the hypnotist. An assistant just makes the show run that much smoother and takes some of the stress off. But you still have to rehearse, give a great pretalk and have a fun show either way. Martin

The most important role of the hypnotists assistant (other than it is nice to have someone helping with tasks- especially if they are pretty) is that they can keep an eye on people to keep them from falling from the chair. In Vegas it is said, THAT IS WHY they were hired. To do one thing, keep people from falling. Anything else they do above and beyond is helpful, but that is primary. Someone falls during a show, it means there is a job opening as an assistant in Vegas....
An assitant with good personality can prep the audience before a show, get them fired up and even get people thinking about coming on stage....

I don't personally do it, but I've seen assistants actually used in the skits. Think dating game where she is the date they don't want to win a film star, world's worst singer where the volunteers are the judges, etc.

I'm with Nongard . . . a stage assistant should help keep people from falling, and if needed, touching people who are down-stage and far away from you.
I always kept two assistants, one lovely woman and an apprentice/student hypnotist. The male would assist with the induction and preliminary tests, the female involved herself with the "floppers" and applying my touch from a distance. Best, J.
