Mark, Thanks for posting these two links. I had decided not to post again because I did not feel like arguing the fact that some of those small restaurant do exist, and can survive. The one where I worked briefly is 45 minutes north of Montreal, and is the property of Chef O. Poissenot, he is a "Toque Blanche International" chef. He is also a good friend of mine.

DannyDoyle, I have no problems accepting my mistakes and "seeing the light" as you put it. It is when I perceive arrogance and also innuendos that I have a tendency to lose my cool.

Then work on your preceptions a bit before you write.

For me the far bigger sin is in posting when you have no idea what the answer is.

You had a great idea what the answer was. You had actual experience. You have been in banquet situations and tried to compare it. So it was sensible, you just got jaded by losing your cool. No harm no foul.

BUT when those with 0 experience try to share knowlege they don't have, is that really "Helping" other magicians?

Theory VS practice? That is a whole other argument. I know university departments that are populated by excellent and superior theorists, but with little actual "in the field" experience. That does not necessarily mean that everything they say is invalid. Apropriate, perhaps not, but invalid?...

I believe it is not helpfull when absolutely nothing suggested holds up.

$130.oo for a steak?? That thing better make me taller and grow hair on my head!!!
As to the thread, as Danny has stated, you will remember the tables that you worked already. It is not necessary nor practical to try to work a pattern. I say this because, after working for some time, you will get a very good feel for which tables would appreciate your magic and which ones not to bother with. I still get fooled on occasion, but that is rare (steak reference).
And, Danny is correct, again, even Improv workers follow a "script" that is essential to a successful performance. I write out a vague script at first then through rehearsal and actual performance find that certain lines didn't work or may be better served in a different phase of a routine, etc. You will, also, get many funny lines from the spectators that you will incorporate in your routines.

The thing is, don't overthink this thing. Be prepared, be friendly, be nice, be entertaining, be aware, and the rest will come to you with experience.
Have fun and enjoy!
Patrick
