Actually the coins were first manufactured for a Vegas TV personality...
You've probably seen them used on the show. The tokens have some very interesting characteristics. First the metal is much harder than silver so the set will be more durable. Second, the metal is impregnated with an anti-corrosive to keep the tokens looking great under extreme use i.e. slot machines. When Thomas made the first sets we discovered that the color of the metal combined with the specular nature made the shell pretty invisible even when viewed from the back. This illusion is enhanced by the token's design. There is a "ring" pattern that really helps hide the seam. They are much bigger than half dollars but slightly smaller than silver dollars. Audience's recognize them as slot tokens and don't question what they are like some of the old silver coins most of us use. Overall I thing these are a great set and a bargin at $100.00. Tokens in Vegas are quickly being replaced by slots that issue receipts. I think these will end up being collector's items. |

I just got the Vegas Coins ( once I heard Bob Kohler's was involved, I knew itr was a must have) The coins and shell are GORGEOUS. I wrote Thomas Wayne about these and here's some more info on them from Thomas:
"Silver half-dollars are around 1.200" diameter; silver dollars come in at around 1.495". Slot machine tokens are extremely consistent at about 1.465" - 1.466". The insert coins for the Vegas Coins set are 1.439" - 1.440"; all four solid coins are fitted to the shell. The edges of the insert coins are cut to make them very easy to classic palm". Well, these coins classic palm so easily. They just "stay there". The shell fits perfect over any of the coins and has a stealth quality when you turn over a coin that has the shell. They are the perfect size for me. I always wanted coins bigger than halves, but smaller than the dollar size. I do a gambling theme set and with authentic slot machine tokens, this is a dream come true. Also for Cody Fisher's Turtle coins or Paul Green's Above, Beside or Below routines. Vegas Coins are one of the best purchases I have ever made.

This sounds great I thought that maybe I could combine this with Dean Dills Coin Cascade effect. Does anyone know if the tokens used are the same as those used in the Hard Rock casino currently, if so anyone know whether someone from the UK could obtain say 25 - 30 of these tokens. I could then rig up some cups with the Hard Rock logo !!

I've one question, and keep in mind that I like Bob and Thomas and regard Thomas to be one of the greatest craftsman in the world. Are these coins machined 'by' Thomas Wayne or by someone else to Thomas' and Bobs specification? There is a different between something actually being made by the master or by the student, regardless of the talent of the student. Again, if made to Thomas' specifications and he approves of them that is good enough for me and they would be of world class manufacture, I'm just wondering. Don't yell at me Thomas!

Along with Bob Kohler, I consulted for the first season of the A&E Criss Angel show(s) - our arena was the close-up stuff. The producers wanted Criss to do some routines with Aladdin slot tokens, so Bob designed the routines and I built the coins. I find it surprising that there has been a good bit of discussion about the "Shadow Coins" routine (Kohler’s handling), but very little notice of the equally magical “Coins Across” (also Kohler’s), wherein four slot tokens transpose from one hand to the other, all at once. It really is a very magical effect, but perhaps magicians didn't realize that it was a real trick (no camera cuts or post editing). In fact, all of the bits that Bob and I created for the series can be done in real time for a live close-up audience.
After that season, Bob proposed that we market a set of slot tokens for the magic community; turns out to have been another one of his great ideas. I machine the coins myself, one at a time. Each set of four tokens is individually fitted to the fifth token (which is a shell), and they are cut from genuine Hard Rock Casino slot machine tokens. Additional tokens could be procured by anyone in Vegas and mailed to the UK. If you wanted the extra coins cut down to match the shell (and manipulate as easily as the set of four) that is something we would need to discuss via email. The original project concept was to market the coins along with a DVD featuring a bunch of previously unpublished routines [with a shell set]. Some footage was shot toward that end, but time got away from us and when Murphy’s Magic saw the finished prototypes they decided they wanted to release them immediately. Whether or not the DVD aspect of the project will ever materialize remains unknown at this time. TW

I've been "playing" with the coins all day. They have a wonderful feel and weight. The shell is imaculate. It's clear these coins were developed as labor of love.
I wish Bob and Thomas would have completed the DVD. I hope one day they decide to release it.

How thick are these compared to a half dollar or silver dollar? I ask because I wonder if they would work well for the coin one routine. Thanks.

If they are like normal slot tokens they are the same size as a silver dollar.

I didn't think these were the slot machine tokens...rather the Silver Strikes that are more collectible and are bet with by high rollers.
I plan on picking me up a set at MAGIC Live if they have some. |

Could be, I don't know...they referenced slot tokens. I'm a low roller, in fact I barely roll, kind of lay there, so I don't know what the high rollers get.

I was thinking about picking up a set at MagicLive, but at 74 dollars, who can pass that up! I had to get my order in. We will see if it ends up be a lot of wait for the money, but I am excited.
See you at MagicLive! RevJohn |

Someone wrote me asking me about the coins. So I got one and am turning it over and over and writing him a description. It was the coin and the shell and I didn't know it. That's how darn good these coins are. WOW.
Does Thomas Wayne do other coin work?
