This is a discussion forum afterall.

I wish he didn't have a monthly release.. I love Sankey magic, but these releases are progressively getting worse and worse...

I really like some of Jay's stuff and I learn from his creativity.
Currently, my favorite effect of his is Leaving Home, which always gets wows and gasps. I like his impromptu humor to a degree, but I do think he tends to say whatever pops into his head - resulting in too many nonsequiturs. A little more internal editing would be a good thing. And I enjoy reading his column in MUM. Frank, I have to respectfully disagree with you about the negative postings in this thread. I'm with Chris in that I think it's fine for the topic of a thread to be for fans of a performer to talk about what they like. I don't want every thread to be like that and there are plenty of "review" threads for people to post negative opinions, but it seems "wet blanket-ish" to post negative comments in a thread like this. (Note that even my comments were not all glowing, but I do consider myself a fan). - Steve |

Be nice to Jay, he is cool.
I absolutely love Bigger Finish, it's my favorite effect in the world. Oh, and his imaginary spectator "Lupo" on TRWORAB was abslutely hilarious. |

Someone should Email Jay, and tell him to put everything he has ever released on video in one huge DVD set, then only release completely new stuff after that.
Maybe I'll Email him about that. |

Where did you hear that? When I saw his last DVD, The International Collection, I got kind of mad.

Been getting great reactions performing just imagine.
I use real markers and turn my back. I let them choose openly an ESP symbol, but I am thinking about having them writing it down and using a peeking envelope. On the other hand, everyone knows the symbol and card, Audience also knows color and think there is no way I should. One the prediction card (blue), I have post it stating you will NOT draw 3 orange wavy lines on the 6H as a GAG! There is no orange marker or 3 line ESP card. Out from here.... |

I have to admit, I love his stuff & purchased quite a bit of his videos & dvd's, even though I haven't purchased any of his stuff over the last two years. He is creative & is great performing! Just my two cents on the subject.

I feel like I got a lot of really good material, because I got the Very Best Of series when he came out, and that's all I have of his. A lot of the stuff on those DVD's is really strong in my opinion (of course there are a few obligatory weak effects, but that's kind of to be expected on such a big project).
I like stirring silver and die-hard opener, I use them all the time. |

I have a sizeable collection of Sankey material, and I really enjoy his offbeat humor (although it can be unnerving and downright weird sometimes). I think he has an awesome performing style, but as many people have pointed out, the frequent releases of new effects may be the quality of the material.

Oh My God by Sankey was a pretty funny tape when it came out. And Sankeytized I and II were some of the best videos I had ever seen when they first came out.
Some of his single releases were a bit pricey for what they really were. Just my opinion. But Jay is a creative man and comes up with very good hard hitting magic. So the buyer HAS to do their research and find out what THEY will like the best. Corey |

IN A FLASH! I picked this up for a dollar at an auction a few years back. Very powerful, instant reset, fire, and has plenty of room for comedy (What more could you want?). He also had an interesting little effect called ghost on one of his vids, can't remember which, that involved a selected page in a book turn out to be sealed in a prediction envelope the whole time. The guy cracks me up.

I have to agree with the original poster here. This thread is for Sankey Fans. If you are not a fan why waste your time and post here. If the thread was "What do you think of Jay Sankey?" then yes everyone should speak up. But this is a thread for Sankey fans to bask in all that is Sankey. I have always liked Jay. I think he is hilarious and very creative. I like a lot of his stuff but not all of it.

A lot of Jay is hard to take but I think he is a great teacher. I own a lot of DVD's and a lot of them are crap but I always feel I get my money's worth when I buy a Sankey DVD or effect.

People still have memories of my performance of In A Flash and Carbon Paper that I did a few years ago. They told me that there were magic tricks that they will remember for a long time. Now that's good sure-fire magic in my book.
