The only thing I have concerning Jay Sankey is the Genii issue of his. I thought his cartoons were hilarious and his effect "Leaving Home" brilliant. Probably because I was a latch key kid.
One time, when I was young, I botched a sleight so bad, Vernon, Marlo & Miller rolled over in their graves. But I didn't see Elmsley, probably because he was behind the others.

I too am a big fan. I met Jay at the Blackpool Convention 2007 and he is a nice and funny person! Amongst the effects Mr. Sankey created that I use in my professional repetoire are Holy Moly/Stretch, Paperclipped and Bigger Finish.
Also, the books (When Creators Collide, Sankey Panky, 100% Sankey, Sankey Unleashed and Beyond Secrets) are great to read! Excellent stuff! |

Thanks, digitaltrip! I have the DVD. I forgot which DVDs this effect comes from... So many DVDs so little time, thanks again, we all can learn from 22 Blows To The Head! Cheers.

I like Paperclipped and Leaving Home. I like Mercuring as well but I think the ring that comes with it is too cheap and does not look like a real ring (it is aluminum) so I plan on making my own gimmick with a more real looking ring, something like a wedding band. Also I like Earplugs. I know the moves are all classic sponge ball stuff but I didn't have a sponge ball DVD or book yet anyway plug there are five bonus effect (non-sponge ball tricks) which are pretty good.

Jay and I have become good friends over the past few years. I've gotten to know him on a very personal level, and let me tell you, the guy is the whole ball of magician's wax.
He has his priorities straight. He's a very direct and kind person. He is truly a father and husband first. Anyone who has kids would do well to take a page from the Sankey Book of Parenting. His wife, Lisa, is awesome and his two kids are just the cutest little things... I've always been a huge fan of his magic, sense of humor, etc, but now I'm a huge fan of Jay the normal person who loves life and loves his family. And to round things off, all time favorite Sankey effects: Hide, Keep, Give Away Director's Cut (Hemispheres) Third Eye (Hemispheres) What can I say... I love Jay! |

Catch one of his lectures. He will have the entire crowd falling off their chairs laughing. Check the running time of his DVDs and the running time of the average released DVD. 206 minutes on Hemispheres!!! that's a lot of teaching. Try Photo Finish from Hemishpheres on a layman. Final Fusion now opens my closeup set. I treat it as a kind of accident and then continue with the deck for other miracles. What does the laymen remember to tell others about? Final Fusion.
I leave case on the side by my close up box, top open flap facing audience. When the card fuses onto the case, people swear later they saw the complete case beforehand. In my handling the card accidentally gets stuck on the case. When I try to peel it off, the face of the card is fused onto the case and the card I peeled off is blank. It is the same as one of the many handlings on the DVD except for the accident. Merl

Merl,
Your post is the epitome of what Jay tries to accomplish. He wants his DVDs to inspire other ideas for other magicians. You modified FF ever so slightly and it became your own. That rocks! |

OK here is what I do not like, the key for Leaving Home does not match the key in KillKey and both are made of non-magnetic (non-ferris) metals, so no magnet ditching to end clean. I can always get a steel set of keys for Leaving Home but they will not match the KillKey key. It would be nice to be able to mix those two routines. Right now it looks kind of stupid to say check out this key effect and then oh yea, I have a different key here that I can do another key effect with.

I respect Jay as a creator, but I'd like to see him take some the effects he creates as single trick DVDs and but them in to a book instead. Some of these items just don't need to be put on DVD to learn the material.
But, I guess there's more profit in a single trick DVD that sells for $30 or $40 then a book with several effects that sells for the same price. Of course I will continue to buy Mr. Sankey's items, even though I know I've gotten more bang for my buck from his 3 major books than his single trick DVDs.

I am a Sankey fan. I like his material even if you get some of the same things on different dvds. The only problem I didn't like was for the magic shops. He at one time was selling his stuff at his website for way cheaper then he was selling it to the wholesaler which in turn made it hard for the local magic shiop to sell his dvds when he was selling it for some times 70% cheaper.

I've only seen one Sankey DVD and its Revolutionary Coin Magic. I enjoy his humor and the material on the DVD is still quite good. I hear RCM 2.0 was nowhere near as good though.

I still have to work on that Mercury C*** F****. Problem is, I ruin a lot of decks practicing it.
