After much practice, I felt I was ready to show my family.
I was nervous, but I didn't make any mistakes.

They loved it. The potato at the end had them howling. Whew.

Congratulations!

What routine did you use?

Congratulations! That must have been a great feeling.

Like elgranmago, I'd like to know which routine you did.

I'm just starting with the chop cop myself, and I'm learning it based on Dan Tong's routine.

How long did you practice before you felt comfortable enough with the moves, and what did you find most challenging to learn?
Barnhardt: You have tested this theory?
Klaatu: I find it works well enough to get me from one planet to the next.

I used Mendoza's, but with only one final load.
I practiced for about 3 days, but I went over it again and again in my head when I wasn't physically practicing.

I was mostly worried about the final load, but I realize now that it isn't a big deal.
They're not even thinking about you putting something in the cup, given that the whole routine is about a little red ball.

On a different note, I went to a barbecue last night. I only knew a few people there.
This was the first time I was bold enough to start walking up to strangers and doing magic. I walked into the family room and did Prohibition for about 10 people. The went nuts. Especially the college-age guys...they were yelling out loud "Oh...NO!" It was awesome. Smile

Very addictive.

Congratulations too. You will discover the wonders you get out of performing to audiences, especially their responses and appreciation for your work. Keep it up.

Mitch you made two good points in your post. It always helps to go over routines, and moves in your head. Lots of other professions (especially atheletes, have used this technique to improve) Your second point abut realizing that the final load was not a big deal is also something that takes many off us a while to realize. You will be amazed at how much you can get away with while interacting with the spectators...not that I'm saying you shouldn't plan your misdirection.
