I have it!
And its bringing me down! I had a show the other night and It was so hard work! Every time after I swallowed in side I was screaming. I was tempted to place this in looking after our own, But it's no major deal, and I'm sure for some reason all the people that really know what they are talking about all stick together here. I'm seeing the doctor tomorrow for some antibiotics. Has anyone got any things that have helped?? Throat lozenges have done nothing. Maybe some alternative medicine like wearing socks on your ears and making love to a steaming hot bbq? I'm a tonsillitis virgin. I'm eating lots of ice cream and sleeping loads. I don't like being sad, and this is making me very sad! =( Cheers guys! Matt. |

Sure fire remedy for tonsillitis: A tonsillectomy. I had one when I was nine. The lack of tonsils makes it very difficult for them to get infected.
On a serious note...I have been very prone to bacterial throat infections. To the point that I couldn't swallow food at all, and lived on broth. The only thing that ever helped for me was hot mint herbal tea, with lots of honey. occasionally, I'd even let a medicated cough drop melt in there before I drank it. Also, if you can get "Thera-flu" over there, it helps, since the pain killer gets dissolved in the hot liquid, and you can bathe your throat in it as you sip it. Also, this is, bar none, the best over the counter throat remedy I've ever seen. Hard to get, and well worth the effort, if you make a living with your voice. http://www.zuckermanpharmacy.com/product......453.html

"Fisherman's Friend" works for a lot of throat ailments. It tastes lousy, but it has opened me up when I had to perform with Sore throats, laryngitis, and a sinus infection. Honestly, I had mine out when I was two years old, so I can't tell you if it will work or not, but give it a try.

Fihserman's friend, and.... (Warning this is gross!!) if you have no gag reflex, use a sterilized swab to clean the white pathces off the tonsils... No white patches, no pain... until they come back. (DISCLAIMER: I used to get REALLY bad tonsilitis, and my MD was the one who taught me this. I suggest ask your MD so you don't cause more irritation. )
He also recommended any pain reliever containing neproxin (Alieve for instance) as a good anti inflamatory. (DISCLAIMER AGAIN- Ask your MD.)

Lots of rest and relaxation. Try not to worry about the unpleasantness going on down your throat - worrying won't help.
My sympathy Matt. Get well soon.

Matt old buddie
Did you hear that they have socialized medicine in England? Not like those of us who live in a third world country.

A carton of Marlboros ought to handle it. Then whack 'em out with a Hockey Stick.

Is there something I'm missing here? There are two adults walking around with a physical problem that is correctable by minor surgery, and they live in countries that offer universal health care.

Easy Al... Some of are just chicken I guess!
Gargle with salt water, Drink hot tea with honey and lemon, use a throat numbing spray such as Cloraseptic. I just had a bout of tonsilitis myself... they swelled up so big, they were touching each other inside my throat! Even the THOUGHT of swallowing was painful! LOL! I wish you a speedy recovery! It isn't a lot of fun - especially when you have shows to do and have to put on a happy face! Lyndel |

When did they stop taking them out? When I was a kid if you looked funny they ripped 'em out.

I have a heart condition, so they prefer NOT to do the surgery... I Begged them to take them out a few years ago... they said no.

I got mine out when I was a little kid, about five I guess. I have this memory of my grandfather, who was a monster in human form, telling me how they did it when he was a kid. I recall staying up all night crying because I thought they were going to rip 'em out with pliers and then shove a hot rod in there to stop the bleeding. He was a charmer that grandfather of mine.

Don't put up with that Daniel, you go tell them that it is free and you want 'em out now and none of this narrow air way stuff. Tell 'em you want your free new air way, your free ne pallet, and free thicker blood.
My brother had the pallet issue and couldn't talk then Stanford University did something and....blammo...he could talk. I was in the service when they did it but whatever it was it worked. |
