I purchased this from a Café member on a whim, what a great buy! Easy to use and sooo much potential. You do need to come up with your own routine as none comes with the die. Here is the ad copy:
"Hand your spectator this beautifully crafted brass die, a chamber and lid. Ask your spectator to pick a number between 1 and 6. Place the die into the chamber with his or her number face up and cover it with the lid. Imagine their surprise when they hand the chamber back to you and you reveal the number they chose without removing this lid!" All the heat can be on the die and box and they still can't figure it out. I have developed a routine to take the heat off the die because everyone was focused on the die, not the effect of reading their mind and telling them the number on the die. Even though they couldn't figure it out, it was just a clever trick. My routine is about reading people at the poker table. Took the heat off the die as all focused on the person who's poker face I was reading. Pros Quality of product is good. Easy to use. Versatile Con It is just a well made trick die without a good routine. I really like this. I was able to play with it and come up with a routine that has fooled everyone so far. It is a great prop and would buy it again if I lost it (at full price too!) |

It seems similar with Dice Cypher from Chazpro Magic.

Greetings,
I have in my possession one made from aluminum but it has no directions at all. I am sure it is vintage due to where it came from. Can someone help me out as to how this item works? Thank you in advance for your kind attention on this. Magic By Richard, Richard Weeber

Hello Evolve629,
The one I have is an aluminum die with aluminum top and bottom cylinder case - somewhat similar to an Okito Coin Box but with a top lid that covers the entire bottom section. I think it is the Diabolical Die from what I have seen avail. on the internet in that the die is off/cut. The cylinder cover is placed on top of the bottom section while it holds the die. I can see how the prediction would work with the way in which the top cover is slightly higher, flush, or slightly lower. What I am having difficulty with is - I do not want to have to ask the spectator if he is thinking of odd or even - this would reduce my magic ability down to 1 in 3 chances instead of 1 in 6. Do you know what I mean? There must be something more that I do not have information about - lack of instructions is a burden... MBR

Greetings again,
Never mind all your kind advise....I was able to determine that the lid is also unique in a way to allow a true 1 out of 6 guess. Unbelievable, the fantastic ideas creative people come up with....this effect is a winner! Rich Weeber

Earlier versions didn't have this 1 of 6 feature, so the best you could do was 1 of 3. All you knew was it was either the top or bottom but you didn't know which.
I was shown an elegant solution involving playing cards. If you lay out a row of six cards and let's say the number on the die is two or five, you would place the force (chosen?) card second from the left. Which, coincidentally is also fifth from the right. Once the die is revealed, you then count to the card at that number starting from either left or right to reach the force card. Because of this, I prefer the older model where this no chance of someone examining the box and discovering the "secret." Of course, I never let them have the box and the die at the same time, that would be way too foolish.

Hi all,
I have the diabolical die too but the unique lid doesn't seem to work for me. The odds and evens all seem the same as far as the lid is concerned..you know what I mean? Any thoughts on this? Thank you. |
