I had an idea. In an old back issue of an IBM Linking Ring, there is a trick similar to "Horizontal Card Rise" using a long stem glass. Has anyone ever thought of using a Devano gimmick with the gimmicked cards? 3 cards come to the front under the silk, and a 4th card visibly rises, vertically. Is this original, or has it been done before? What do you think of the idea?

I've never seen them combined before. As long as you come up with a good reason for "repositioning" the deck, it sounds nice.

Although I haven't seen "Horizontal Card Rise," I thought that perhaps the Devano gimmick might be a good ending for an Ambitious Card routine. Instead of the card rising to the top, it rises the other direction.

Can't say that I've seen that particular use before. Sounds interesting, though.

This effect was in the original Tarbell Course (so I imagine it's in the hard cover book version, too) and was sold as a dealer item from time to time. The name "Ace Capades" comes to mind concerning a marketed version...?

In any case, it is worth tracking down. And, yes, the Devano type rise for the last card is an excellent idea!
