Johnson's shells run $30-35 for post 64 Kennedy's, $60ish for Libertys and if memory serves me the $1.00 are around 80 bucks.
The others have already been mentioned and I do plan to get some Schoolcraft stuff one day myself but for now my Johnsons are just fine! |

You should go with a set from lassen. Don't just get a shell get an entire set of coins. 4 regulars and the shell to match perfectly. The quality of work is amazing.

What are people's opinion of MORGAN & WALKING LIBERTY Silver Dollar SHELLS bought at this site??:
http://themagicwarehouse.com/tsilver1.html Money is very tight and I want to know is it worth the $60 for the MORGAN and $45 for the WALKING LIBERTY Shells?? I do want to get the custom-made coins (Lassen, Schoolcraft, etc.), but they are way too steep at this part of my coin magic life... Maybe someday.

Salby.. They have been out of Morgans and Walkers for a while now...
I would say stay awy from those two in Johnson anyway. Johnson is great don't get me wrong. But the way they exspand the coins leaves a bit of a sheen to them that looks un natural on those particular coins. Morgans and Walkers have a bit of age to them and the sheen takes away from that. The kennedy 64' are ok.. I have two and use them all the time... The peace dollars made by johnson are great.. Peace dollars naturally have a bit more of a sheen then morgans so... you can't tell a thing them. In my opinion peace dollars are the best Johnson shell. They are also in stock... Also Peace dollars are in my opinion more beautiful then nonsoft morgans... Plus you can get them for like 9 bucks.. If you buy them a little dirty you can get them even cheaper... Then use some silver cleaner on them... (Just don't tell the guy at the coin shop that).. All the best. Shawn.

Salby, I have both Morgan dollar tail-side (Schoolcraft) and head-side (Lassen) ['s. Both are very well made and well worth the money to have made by either of these craftsman. I agree that spending the extra money to have all the coins matched with the shell is worth the expense. I would also suggest having the [ sh****d as well as the matching coins for use with a h*****t At the very least get the [ Sh****d. Jess, Salt Lake City, Ut.

Salby,
Price for magic props is a relative thing. For some magicians a 150 dollar prop is very expensive... for others a 500 dollar prop is cheap. I think it all comes down to whether you will use it....or not. and whether you will use it to make money. If you are working and you use the prop... and your show is better because of the prop... then it's just a matter of actually having the cash on hand... because you'll make the expense back in a matter of time. But if you are not working or don't use the prop then the cost is truly a loss as the prop just sits in your magic drawer not earning or justifying the money you've spent. Each of us must evaluate whether each purchase will better our show and provide us a return on our investment or if it's a waste of money and will end up in the bottom of a drawer.

Although it has a nominal value of "One Dollar", it is actually intended as a collectors coin, and due to the silver composition, it is always sold for much more than a dollar, and indeed was never intended to circulate for a dollar. At 40.60 mm in diameter, it is noticeably larger than any of the regular silver dollars minted for circulation, which are 38.1 mm in diameter. The design of the obverse (heads)side replicates the Walking Liberty design, while the reverse (Tails) side although still an eagle, is an original heraldic design for this coin. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:2006_......_Obv.png http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:2006_......_Rev.png Don
