I had the pleasure of visiting the lovely city of Edinburgh during the fringe festival and, amongst the many performances that I watched, I saw the aforementioned show starring Stephen Long. Here is what I thought:
The extremely charismatic Long delivered a show that was unique, entertaining, funny, clever and one of the best things I saw at the festival. He had everything you could want from a mentalism show; sock predictions, beer cap in a bottle, hangman, fun & games, revel predictions, sing-a-long jingles and russian roulette with staple guns. I thoroughly enjoyed the humour within the performance, and the show was presented in a very professional manner, clearly showing Stephen's stage and theatre experience. Well rehearsed and well performed. You can see the moments that are influenced by Stephen working closely with Derren Brown, or vice versa maybe, yet there is no hint of him being a Derren Brown clone, which is very refreshing. Stephen has his own unique style that is charming and brilliant with some very original ideas. I heartily recommend this to anyone that is in the area over the next couple of weeks, definitely one of the best shows I took in during my time there. I also saw Pete Firman performing magic whilst I was there and was also thoroughly entertained by a magic show where the magic was secondary to the entertainment. |

Thanks for the review Richard - I have heard great things about the show, shame there is a whole 'sea' between me and a ticket.

I also saw his show, and the first thing that struck me apart from a soft cuddly ghost to the back of the head (where there's a blame there's a claim) was how likable a performer he is. You wanted to enjoy it, and not for him to die of apoplexy.
His show was very slick but not over rehearsed to the point he wasn't enjoying it. It made a change to watch an act during the week I was there that didn't rely heavily on expletives and knob gags... Not that I'm against them, just nice a change of pace. His jingles were a joy, I can't get the tune of "Into the bin" out of my head, and his free gifts of pencils and revels a reason for me to live. He smelled fresh and his hands were clean. I'd definately make the effort to watch him again, and not just through his window while he sleeps. I'd pay. I also saw Pete Firman, I'm not following Salsa around, I saw him first. I loved his face and wanted to brush his hair. I enjoyed them both, for different reasons. Mr Firman relied heavily on knob gags. I enjoyed it. All in all, Stephen Long is a brick. |

Stephen is a multi talented guy and very attractive with it. Not only does he peform his material excellently he also does a mean one hand clap with his feet..
Stephen got in contact with me earlier this year to discuss a few things about his new show and thankfully he didn't use a single idea of mine, I guess in hindsight pooh juggling and who's wee wee is it may not have gone down well.. A man to watch out for.. Spelmann
It's not goodbye, just see you later...

Sadly, I never got to see Chris Cox. Thanks for posting the review, sounds like it was a good show also.
