And when you fill out the application, you need to list 10.

So basically they don't know what they want.

I think it's more of that they want to see a representative sample of your work first. There appears to be several individual casting directors working on this project and each has a particular preference to how much they want to see.

If one is selected as one of the 10 finalists, then one may need to have up to 10 routines that they're able to perform.

Did anyone attend any of the Open Casting Calls in either NY, LA or LV?

For me it was the ownership by NBC of all material sent in, to include my material and my photo and image. I could understand them having ownership of the performance that was aired, but to own my material and image even if not aired or selected for the show, and for them to have the right to do as they please with the footage, material (my intellectual property), and my image went beyond my comfort zone.

Like Tony said, I did not like that part either.
They also wanted your opinion on Uri and Criss and if you have ever met either one. I have met Criss. And they kept changing some of the requirements. First it was show them 3 effects, then 5, then 10.

They added illusionists to the bill when not enough mentalists were willing to be part of it. At some point they'll probably add jugglers and ventriloquists until they have enough performers who aren't smart enough to read the fine print in the contracts. Don't know details about this particular show, but others in the past are able to keep costs down by calling it a competition and paying only a small "honorarium" to each act for their time and trouble. Sometimes they can sneak around the unions, but the end result is usually a poorly produced program.

Just be careful out there and run the contract past an attorney if you really want to take it seriously. Most of the contracts stipulate that they can make you look bad, foolish, stupid, etc...and you AGREE to not sue them no matter how they edit the footage. Once your signature is on the paper you can't go back and claim that they slandered you. You signed any power away and you're stuck. Again, just be careful. Hopefully this show will take the high road, but after seeing the contracts and heard the stories from past television competitions and reality tv shows, the odds look dim.
