Just wondering if others ever once and awhile do a self google...(is there a name for that..)?

Also as Google has been around awhile are there other searches that you check...and more importantly that our consumers check...???

I check out how my stage name does occasionally. As well as trying out what I think new customers might be using to find entertainers:

"children's entertainer Belfast" or "magician northern Ireland"
I don't do too badly.

For "magic george belfast" after my site comes lots of references to the magic of George Best the Belfast football legend.

Do you have any DUI's, an arrest record, how about a domestic dispute, prison record, are you on probation, are you on parole, concealed wepon arrest, armed robbery, drug arrests, drunk and disorderly, did a judge send you to a rehab center, are you a republican, child, or wife abuser, do you visit your mom regularly, do you have a scum bag cousin with the same name as you, or is there anything in your past that you would rather people not know about you?

FORGET ABOUT IT, Google is your unauthorized biography, and you can't do anything about it. I suggest everyone google themselves, but don't do what George did google your first, and last name and find out about the personal stuff that google has on you stuff that you can't change.

My daughter started a new job, and on her first day at work her boss told her "we know about that party you went to in California two years ago", and we live 3,000 miles away in Pennsylvania.

Ok, This is fun to try. The best search (In my humble but factual opinion) is Zaba Search. Zaba will give you all sorts of key's to someone's closet. In some counties you can even see their taxes that were filed.

My work with the DOC and School System for about 20 years might also show up.

I have been cleared to go into Maximum Security Prisons as well as do a yearly check on various "sheets"...I remember the first time I got one back..I didn't read the fine print about NOT SHOWING UP on the various list....

It's a valid point. I discovered the Magic Café in the first instance by doing a Google search. And as Scott points out, the bad joke Robert just posted could easily appear if you do a Google search for him. You have to be a mite careful what you say on the internet. This information is available to everyone with computer access.

Doug is quite right - I discovered the Magic Café while Googling my own name! There was a thread on Axtell products where I was being discussed.

Which is why I don't post my name, stagename or website here. Not that I make a habit of saying offensive things about people, but the Magic Café is NOT part of my marketing strategy.

And I was serious about Robert's comment. That sort of thing is not the way you want to present yourself on a public forum if you also happen to be in the public eye . . .as say . . .a magician?

I have also found that through my hosts analytics tools have been really great for me to know how my prospects are getting into my site. I can better track it this way. Google comes ut on top but Yahoo is a close second.

My post was a dramatization of what might happen, I believe you love your mom, kids, wife, cats, and dogs. Please don't be so defensive, but if there is some evil person with the same name as you you still can't do anything about it. How about the people who get bumped of airplanes because there name appears on a list of people of interest. Calm down Harris I'm sure they will still let you into the maximum security prisons in Kansas. I must admit I have a hard time trying to imagine a puppet show in Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary.

Posting at the magic Café should be the least of your worries. I suggest you google yourself, because like it or not they have a record of you, or someone else with your name that you can't change.

I'm so glad to know that someone else can see the 800 pound gorilla in the room.

Al, I google myself every couple of months just to see what is appearing about me. Believe it or not, I am the one and only person on the entire internet with my name. And the only things that pop up are links to my sites, calendars of events where I'm performing, and one quote about another performer (positive comment) that I wrote about 7 years ago. That quote was written to an online BBS and the person in question liked the quote and used it. That made me very aware that on the internet, words stick around for a looooong time.

This is not like having a chat with a bunch of guys at the local magic club. There you can say some off-handed remark, and if its interpreted wrong -- well no big deal. On the www . . . you never know.

I'm so glad you took my advice seriously. The last time I googled myself it was like a resume of satisfied customers, because lots of organizations posted my performances on their bulletin board, so a google search is like a double-edged sword.
