I saw the performance video of an effect named "This n' That" on YouTube. I wanted to learn the origins of this effect and the original name of it.
I tried looking up information but "This, and, n," & "That" are all too common of words and are omitted from the search results. The effect is there are three blank-faced cards, shown as two with "This" written on the faces, and one with "That". All 3 become "This" cards, then "That" cards, then "This" cards again, then it's shown that there are actually three different cards, "This", "That", and the "Other". So can anyone shed some light? |

This may be of help:
This One That 1 by Mark Leveridge http://www.markleveridge.co.uk/shopbask/products/toto.html This That & The Other by Brent Braun EFFECT: The four 4's are shown front and back and the spectator is asked to select one. The magician questions, "This one?" as he shows the word THIS printed on the back of the card! But what if they had picked that card? The magician shows that now THIS is gone and THAT has appeared! But what about the other card? Now THAT is gone and OTHER has appeared! The magician then relates that spectators never pick the final card and shows that it has the word NEVER printed on the back! http://www.elmagicshop.com/cgi-bin/webc.......51142.71 Richard |

Years ago Mike Shelley (the now defunct Magical Mysteries Co. from Florida) sold an "adult" version of This & That by Trevor Lewis. The white plastic cards were silk screened with red letters.
At the right time, at the right place, with the right crowd, it's a good trick! Julie |

I had simillar trouble tracking down the originator of this and that, but liked the 3 card monte effect. I use it all the time (adults) and have developed my own patter along the lines of
"this is the first trick I learnt, and my wife taught it to me.... ...so if you can't follow this, and can't follow that, then there will be none of ...!..." This may sound lame, but creates a lot of laughter every time without fail. |
