I have bought many packets of heart shaped rubber bands but unfortunately the shape does not exactly look like hearts. The top of the heart shape is rounded but the bottom is also rounded instead of being pointed.
Is there a way to shape the bottom part so they will be pointed? That way the shape would look like hearts again. Any help is highly appreciated. |

Don't know if it would work, but you might be able to drive a straight pin or small nail into a block of wood, hook the pointed end of the band over the pin, stretch the band a bit, and heat the point with a heat gun. Start from a distance away to keep from melting the band, and gradually get closer as you figure out how much het it will take.
Things are more like they are today than they've ever been before...

Are you saying - heat the pointed end of the band that is stretched over the pin? Will heating the pin first, then place the pointed end over it work too?

Would super glue work? I would think that putting a drop of super glue on the inside of the point and holding them together would create a sharper point.
If you can pull it off in a biker bar without being violated by a corn dog, more power to you.

From what I found the rubber bands a made on a mold and than sliced. The ones that are shaped are done the same way. You can check it out here http://www.scottpix.com/gallery/travel/myanmar_rubber.html .
I have tried to re-shape using the hot air gun but it seems to weaken the rubber band and they break quicker. Just my 2cents worth Chris |

I'll give that a try and see how it goes.

I've done it with super glue. Use a very small drop and it looks great. Just don't pull on it too hard after it dries.

I would have thought superglueing it would make the band hard and therefore would snap very easily if stertched. Also heating the pin first may just melt the band. I would try putting the band round a pin and heating it, as suggested by amosmc.

Would the band snap or the glue snap apart when stretched, after supergluing it?

Superglue would make the band hard and it would lose its 'elacticity', like a perished rubber band. It will snap easier.

Thanks, Mark. I will try the heating method instead.

Try using a thin piece of hot metal like a dull razor blade atatched to a block of wood instead of a hot nail, the blade should make a better "V" shape

That is an excellent idea, Ben. Will certainly try that. The 'V' shape is important for the heart shape, in this case.

Currently the following shapes are already being sold ... heart, triangle, star, square, and even animal shapes.
The problem is how well they are shaped. I am very disappointed with the heart shape as they look nothing like hearts. I bought many packets and now have to reshape all of them. |

JamesTong, whatever method you are planning to do, let us know which method, and if it worked.

Sure, I will do that. I will post 'before' and 'after' photos. Let me experiment and see how it work out.
