For a add a number pad... the Jerry OConnel one is mighty fine... not a wallet - but looks so nice and is fun to use... I got rid of the cheesy pencil and put in a really classy pen

Or use the method given in Corinda's "Astronomical" (Step 4, p.109).

For "add a no" it's hard to beat the Kozar pad. Though there are many suitable wallets out there, I find it rather strange that as performers we would hand out a personal wallet to strangers to fill in numbers.
Good thoughts Gerry

The Kozar pad is exceptionally well made and can be handled by the spec who adds up the numbers. With proper audience management all can handle the pad. It operates on the Horwitz wallet principle, as does the Horwitz notepad. (Does this make the Horwitz a copy of the Kozar? If so, is that a rip-off?)

I too like the Kozar but stopped using it because of it's red color. Who uses or carries a red wallet or pad? To me it seemed to attract suspicion. It's not available in black or brown.

Check out Banachek's Psi Series DVDs for an awesome "add a number" effect using 3x5 cards. It's easy to do, incredibly deceptive and the spectator's get to reconfirm their numbers during the routine (if you want). Plus the rest of the series is filled with amazing material.

Check Max Maven's very easy Add-A-No with business cards (You find it in his AUTOME routine).

E. Raymond Carlyle has the most effective NON-gaffed (essentially) Add-A-No routine out there. Not only are you using a 50-cent pocket notepad you can pick up at any Staples, but the spectators can CHECK THEIR OWN NUMBERS AFTER THE ADDITION IS DONE. It's brilliant. If you're looking for it, it can be found on his DVD.

Yes, that's a clever bit from Carlyle, but I still find it to be more a thing of conceptual beauty than something I would really need.
Rather than that, now that you mentioned that, Gabelson... I have always liked something that David Berglas suggested many years ago (and I don't recall if that idea is in his book) to make impossible or at least very hard for spectators to come up with the REAL result from the addition. For another clever bit on the Add-A-NO, check also some ideas from Bob Farmer.

The mighty john riggs has a superb impromptu add-a-number dohickey...costs around 40p/80cents to make and it's a beauty!

...it's a genius idea isn't it...
I like the classy feel of the horwitz wallet and pad, but the riggs thing is a fantastic little carry around...what could be less disarming than a natural, everyday object... I'm slowly buying everything that man puts out, love his work and his brutal honesty...

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but John amazes me. He calls me literally EVERY SINGLE DAY with new and original ideas. His gears never stop turning.
