How do you determine if your Hopping Half coins are a Johnson set? My recently purchased Johnson set came with a "heads" half-dollar shell while my original set had a "tails" shell (which I ran through the washer/dryer and it got dinged up - Doh!). Is that in itself a giveaway that it's not authentic? The quality of this set just doesn't seem up to par ... yet it came with the Johnson documentation.
Thanks! Larry

My johnson set was a heads side shell ,also got the paper routine with it from johnson ,but that don't really prove it I guess .
Usually johnson's stuff are pretty good for mass produced coins. But would never be as good as the pro gaff coin makers. Would really be hard to know maybe someone might shed some lite on it for you.
If you put the time in....you will achieve ...

The general consensus is Johnson's tails shell fits better than the heads. There's several existing threads on the topic.

My Johnson HH set came with a tails sider. Another distinguishing characteristic was that the edges of the half itself are worn down and rounded (as compared to an unworked half) to give the [ better side coverage

Wizards Chest? I know the Wizards Chest. Didn't know you guys had Johnson products. What are the hours for the having a magic demonstrator on duty? Whenever I go and there's no one to demo it doesn't seem like anyone else in the store knows that much about the magic section.

Here in ABQ, we sell Johnson sets. We're given the option of Head or Tail shells.
Yes, that is my real name. Yes, I am a real person. No, you probably won't agree with me.

Thanks, Jeff ... that squashes my conspiracy theory. Maybe there's something to the poster who said that the tails shell fits better than the heads. You'd think Johnson would laser etch their products to curb rip-offs (or questions of rip-offs).

The last two are right. johnsons uses e[ hd and e[ penny if the shell on the penny doesn't fit over aregular penny then it's not johnsons, probably sascos which is 20-30 dollars cheaper. where did you buy it from?
