I use a fair share of retention vanishes in my work, though I like to spruce it up with a coin roll vanish and a spider vanish to really throw them off. I have a nice little routine with one coin that i'll do impromptu anytime that incorporates a standard retention vanish, coin roll vanish, spider vanish, some of garrett thomas's material from his big coin in little purse routine, and the whole structuring of the routine is meant to exploit the spectator's conceptions after each phase. They keep thinking they know where that coin is, and that is precisely what I use against them.
