While at the recent Magic Live (which was fantastic BTW) I was fortunate enough to spend some time with Karl Hein and see his Heiny 500. Basically it is Karl's FABULOUS handling of Greg Wilson's Hundy 500 or Patrick Pages Flash Cash. Everyone who saw it raved about it. It really looks like magic. It's got some shows and changes that look like trick photography. Kozmo produced a DVD of this effect in explicit detail and I'd imagine we'll see it in about 3-4 weeks. WATCH for this. It is HIGHLY HIGHLY recommended.

Yes... here are a few off the top of my head....
Cardini book by The Miracle Factory - just beautiful (won't be distributed at present so must go direct) New Sylvester Pitch DVD premiered and to be released soon wide scale - Murphy's will distribute to your favorite dealer. Dean Dill's coins through Triangle Table (won't be distributed at present so must go direct) upcoming DVDs by Yigal Mesika on Loops with Finn Jon - Murphy's will distribute to your favorite dealer. new effect Jason Palter is working on. new effect I will be releasing later this year and showed to a few people. It got a fabulous response. Greg Wilson added some really super additional ideas and will be helping me with the DVD portion of the release. Kostya Kimlat DVD on culling coming in October (won't be distributed at present so must go direct - he was pre selling them and I ordered one). new Fabrini prints (I have 2 in my home office - I love these). Greg Wilson finally was able to finish Freakey and had some there. Should be out generally soon from what he was told. Looks great. Spoke to Louis Falanga about next L&L release - I can't release details but it is in my opinion one of THE best releases L&L has done. I imagine we'll see it in October or November. I was at this shoot and can't speak highly enough about this. I'll spill the beans soon once I get an OK from Louis. And the Karl Hein Heiny 500 is a MUST have... people will flip when they see this. Oh, and Ted Brainard has a jam packed GREAT second issue of Reel Magic Quarterly. Featured will be Jason Alexander. John Lovick did the interview and I sat in on it. This is worth a years subscription plus just for this interview. Jason is top notch on so many levels... professional, a great magician, a superb thinker, and just a super nice guy. In addition I did an interview with Kevin James featuring discussion on America's Got Talent, Lovick did an interview with Michael Ammar, etc. If you don't have the first issue of this DVD magazine you are missing out. It features Paul Harris and has Harry Lorayne, David Regal, Garrett Thomas, and many more. Each issue has interviews, tricks, reviews, etc. for $10 an issue... a true steal. One other note... I got to spend some time with both David Blaine and Cyril. Both of these guys are true class acts. We all went out to dinner together and David did some magic for the head chef and several staff members. I've spent time with David but this was the first time I'd seen him do magic for people live. He just KILLS when he does magic. I have to be honest... I have never seen someone get the type of reactions David does. Paul Harris had told me about this. He said that when David does a basic ambitious card routine as an example he just kills and gets reactions unlike any other magician and I got to witness it. People truly believe they've seen the real thing. As we were leaving Cyril did a routine that was just incredible. He's a GREAT guy... very nice, a great thinker, etc. Doug McKenzie was there - he's David's right hand guy and a GREAT thinker, performer, and super person. Spent some time with my buddy James Clark and his lovely wife. James as you may know is the producer of Street Magic Magazine and owner of Black's Magic (Prohibition, Dracula Book Test, etc.). James and I have developed a real friendship and he's doing great things for magic. He's taken a lot of undue heat on his magazine as he's really pushing the envelope in many respects but I can't tell you the amount of thinking and care that go into his publication and everything he releases. I hope people will get over the speculation and be supportive of Street Magic Magazine as I think it can truly help the magic fraternity. If anyone has any concerns, questions, etc. James is always happy to talk.... he's not shy LOL. Once people SEE and READ the magazine they see how great it truly is. And it just keeps getting better. James is really making a difference in magic so I'll do everything I can to be supportive of that. We got to have a very nice visit with Criss Angel at his place. He was really a gracious host and has lots of very exciting projects on the horizon. He's about to film the 4th season of his series. What is really amazing is how many great people are involved in this field. Certainly there are disputes and controversies on line but a convention like Magic Live brings people together and makes you see how many wonderful people are involved in this crazy art of ours. I want one!!! As for Mr.Blaine, I have never known what it is Magicians don't like about him...is it his personality? The fact he has people create Magic for him etc? I like him, his name is in my MSN name in fact! His personality is unique, and I think people haven't really seen his true talents, kind of like Dynamo. I see a lot of people bash Dynamo, yet if you give him, and David Blaine a deck of cards, man are they talented!!! |

Hi Christopher. I'll give more details on my item after we film it soon in October... it will come out very soon after that. We had hoped to film it in Vegas at Magic Live but had some dramatic changes that prompted us to hold up a bit and it will be worth it. I've shared this with some select people I really respect that loved the idea.
As far as Blaine... it's easy for people to talk smack about people without truly knowing them. When one gets to KNOW David you will quickly find he's a great guy and super insightful and intelligent. As a matter of fact when discussing new effects I ALWAYS listen to his input as he's always right. He's got one of the best eyes I have ever seen for what is good magic. He's very insightful. I think a lot of the early negative talk on Blaine was quite frankly just jealousy. But he's a brilliant thinker, brilliant performer, and super person... I don't use the term brilliant loosely here but he really is. If you watch him perform for people live it's an experience you'll never forget. It's amazing the amount of great material that keeps coming out. Certainly there is the junk and the stuff that doesn't live up to the talk but there's still SO much great stuff. I was talking at length about this with Paul Richards of Elmwood. Paul advised there is so much GOOD material coming out you can't possibly stay on top of it - we often focus on the negative stuff but if you just look at the good stuff it is overwhelming. Oh, BTW... a few of us were jamming and Dean Dill showed his version of Crazy Man's Handcuffs and fried some VERY knowledgeable magicians... don't overlook this... it is included on Nabil's Link DVD. It gets rid of the stretch phase so can be used with that as a phase to eliminate possibilities. I also got to see Daniel Garcia's wallet... it's VERY clever. Tim |

Hey guys,
Karl showed me this (Heiny 500) years ago when I was passing through Florida on a lecture tour. Not only was he a gracious host...but one of the nicest people I have ever met. Once people see Karl's handling...I think a lot of people will want to do it! (I know I did!) I have had this for quite some time now...and have used it in the real world...and I can highly recommend it. The "change" is SO visual...It really looks like trick photography in your hands. Anyway...when this comes out...I highly recommend it... Cody S. Fisher

I know several magicians, overlooking the work David put into his magic and the special, where so jealous that he made it so big doing what they thought were simple tricks. How jealous? They actually would tell lay people how the effects were done if they the lay folk went on about David's magic. That's how bad it was. I watch his first special often because his audienece management and technique is so good. Watch his ACR for the guy who calls himself "Fruit Loops". The fellow is right on top of David and trys to turn over the top card and David brilliantly prevents it, whithout making it look like he doesn't want him touching the cards ( because he does let him-when it's time ). Some Magciians don't like the character he created. It's that character, his facial expressions, his eyes staring into theirs that makes them shudder and believe it's real magic they are seeing. Tim, thanks for taking the time for all the updates. I think creativity in magic is at an all time high point and it's exciting that these Pro's are sharing their work!

Kozmo,
I don't know Karl Hein personally but I use the Heinstein shuffle at every performance I do! That's enough within itself but I have even fooled well-versed card magicians with it. I also do a number of variations of Pat Pages Easy Money, which includes my very own 3D Cash release. This happens to be another thing I do all the time. Karl Hein + Easy Money? I'm waiting on the edge of my seat. Any information you have for us is appreciated. Thanks Kozmo Mark Allen |
