Hank Lee has an item available called "Morph Dog". Here's the description:
Yuris Lesnick’s Morph Dog is by far the coolest sponge ball transformation effect you will ever see! Show a 2” sponge cube. Show your hand empty. Make a fist. Slowly tuck the cube into your fist. When you open your fist, the sponge cube is gone! In its place is a cute little sponge dog! Complete with a little doggie tail and cute little doggie eyes! Morph Dog is a great walk-around trick. The kids love it. You’ll carry it with you all the time! Self-contained. Each one is hand made and really a work of art! Buy two, they're small! Note: Morph Dog is made exclusively for Hank Lee's Magic Factory, so you will find it here and nowhere else! Can anyone tell me if there is any difference between this and the standard "Puff The Magic Dragon" trick that Magic By Gosh has been making for years? They even made two different versions, one with wings and one without. |

There are several of these going around. There is a fellow in Canada who is a hairdresser and an amateur upholsterer who does real ART with sponge. I think his name is Henry Mirkovich. I'll have to find his card.

Henry's work is no longer available. His ex-wife threw out all his tools and foam. All of his work was custom order.

As far as I know, Henry never made anything exactly like the Morphdog or the Morphdragon. He made one of a kind, original custom orders, for the most part. He didn't copy anyone, unless it was completely by accident. If someone asked him for an item like Morphdog or Morphdragon, he probably wouldn't have made it, because he was familiar with what was on the market. There was no need to duplcate anything that anyone else was making.
If I had an item like this, I would sell it to Murphy's. They pay very quickly.

Eddie Ace from Pittsburgh was one of the first guys I knew to make the morph stuff in a very artistic form. Rabbit and tortoise was one of his. I think he is still making stuff.

As far as I know, Henry never made any "Morph Dogs" or "Morph Dragons." He did other things, basically foam sculpture.
As far as things that morphed from a sponge ball to another figure, these have been around since the 1950's. I'll have to see if I can find one in any of my old catalogs, but there used to be a rubber sponge (not polyfoam) that turned inside out -- with a hole -- to form a rabbit. Lou Derman used one in his act. He had a sponge rabbit like this. He filled the hole with raisinets, so the rabbit would poop on the spectator. This was LONG before Goshman was making his sponge balls.

It is not absolutely correct to tell that they appear from a sphere if we speak at technological level. If we tell about such as the cube - sphere, the rabbit - sphere, all of them are hidden, clamped in a hole an aperture and then are pulled out. Mine things have other nature. I have come to these transformations with concept *Topology in sculpture* in 1985. I have seen Goshmans cube-sphere for the first time in 1994. At that time I had many hopes of my invention and we worked with the lawyer for the patent(US Patent 5506013). Plastic foam novelty items Abstract A resilient solid foam object which has a part of its outer surface scribed with a series of connected cuts. These cuts communicate with the interior of the foam object. The cuts are arranged to allow the foam object to be turned inside out and are shaped to form a three dimensional structure within the solid foam object. The three dimensional object is displayed upon turning the solid foam object inside out. Also described is a method for making these novel foam objects. Quote:

I understand about wich material you speak is rubberfoam. I have made in such material many researches. During the USSR, it was the most widespread bast which cost copecks. Later this material was superseded by polyfoam. In my collection I still have sculptures of that time. I will necessarily lay out them on Youtube for viewing. It would be very interesting to look these rabbits, about which you speak, but I am assured that mine bany has no analogues. I do not lose a material, there is no cavity in mine product, I use all material to morph new figure. Quote:

Henry had NOTHING left from his foam sculpture. No tools. No photos. NOTHING.
Maybe some of his customers have some pictures, but he left the house with empty hands. He has no intention or desire to get into the foam business again. As far as the ball to rabbit is concerned, obviously the ball could not be displayed all the way around, because of the hole in the bottom. By the way, not all balls are spheres. Some are round, some are oval. I NEVER used the word "sphere" in any of my posts. Goshman acquired much of his material from Ravell. Ravell was probably the one who first made a ball to square. Just to disabuse you from some notions you have about magic on the internet and/or facts about anything on the internet, for that matter, you will not find everything available on the internet unless you subscribe to some very expensive services. You won't find all the legal news on the internet unless you subscribe to lexis/nexus. You won't find all the magic information unless you subscribe to Conjuring Arts. Lou died in 1975, which means that he had stopped all his performances before anyone had even thought of the internet. Very little was available on any kind of computer except at university libraries, and those were not interconnected. Just because YOU can't find it on the internet doesn't mean that it did or did not exist. It just means that it isn't on the internet. You will find Lou mentioned in a couple of places, but they have nothing to do with magic. He was also a writer. He wrote for All in the Family and Mister Ed, which were two major television shows. Regarding Henry's sponge work, I think you may have misunderstood some of the things I said about it. He did not specialize in morphing figures. He may have made a few, but I never saw any. All I have seen of his work is really beautiful foam sculpture. Also, the rubber foam I am referring to is not the smooth, white latex foam that was fairly common during the 1960's and 1970's. The rubber foam I am referring to was very coarse, grainy rubber foam. Usually it was reddish brown, but sometimes it was available in grey or tan. Here is a drawing from the 1950 Kanter's catalogue. http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv321......bbit.jpg I don't have any photos of one of these things. The drawing is a bit deceptive. The ball would actually have been a bit larger compared to the rabbit.

Bill, maybe you remember the dealer.
At TAOM 09, it was the second booth on the right as you walk in, next to Daytona. I think they were from Japan. He had a yellow sponge ball, and he turned it into a yellow sponge Pikashu. I did not buy it. I just remembered it now. ACE
