YOU name it my friend! Tons of possibilities for a creative worker. @Paul Can be overcome with very good audience management: do a trick before where he/she has to shuffle cards - now you know how he/she will shuffle the MCD. And hey, no risk - no fun!

Same thing with Max Maven in his old L&L tapes. They just prove that there is dozens of ways getting around the problem if you don't want to take a risk. And of course there is allways the question "Can you do riffle shuffle?" Or better yet, let em shuffle other deck and see how they shuffle it before giving em something "COLD". |

I start off with the deck in perfect order from a sealed case.
I spread the cards, making it very easy and obvious to the spectator, all 52 cards are there(subtle). Place the deck face down and have them cut into two piles and then I reach over and spread the cards of each half. After that I have THEM push the spreads into each other and repeat. This way, even if they can't shuffle cards, they accomplish the same thing as a riffle shuffle. I have also removed the jokers and placed them face down to the side and when they finish doing this a couple of times, I square up and place the deck on the jokers(a part of my routine), so I can now instantly turn the deck face up and spread, showing the cards are mixed. This is a very deceptive sequence for me and the fairness is overboard. They have seen you open a new deck, then spread showing every card that should be in a deck and then they shuffle and after that they see the mixed cards. I use it as a very clear seemingling moveless effect, that from my experience, leaves the spectator with no explination and a loss for words. This deck helped me structure a very simple, yet powerful routine. I love this deck! For what it's worth, Steve |

Steve,
Sounds like you have a very well thought out effect! It is thinking like this that makes this deck awesome. It has real potential. Where did you purchase your Monte Cristo Deck? |

I know, one is just shuffling it yourself:) "And of course there is always the question "Can you do riffle shuffle?" True, and the answer can be no. Unless people are card players they are normally terrible shufflers. "Or better yet, let em shuffle other deck and see how they shuffle it before giving em something "COLD". So now you have to switch in the deck (unless you are doing a two deck routine). Yes, I've occasionally seen how other people handle this (and like the way Tamariz often has people thinking they've shuffled the deck when they've not). But there is always an element of risk, and I've seen so many spectators shuffle badly and drop cards on the floor, that I'd rather cut out any risk at all, after all if they see cards like this you have no recovery, no out, you're well and truly busted. Call me a coward, but I'd rather give a risk free performance. Paul. |

I end with just the "jokers", with the deck being placed in the pocket for the final to make it "more" fair. Just something that works for me with a built in cleanup, so I can continue with a straight deck, putting the three cards back into the deck. I don't think for one minute that a spectator needs to shuffle for a strong effect, but that is the way I do it and is the only routine I use with the deck. Steve |

I've been looking for it for a while
and It's good it's gonna be marketed soon.... I have several routines in mind using this deck.... I saw an effect by David Regal in his Premise, Power, Participation DVDs set and it just fooled me badly.... Cheers Andre

I still have no idea what exactly the Monte Christo deck is, but wouldn´t it be helpful for a worst case scenario to make a stripper version of this deck? So even if they shuffle it in a non expected version and turned over some cards you still could easily "shuffle" again and sort the cards with the wrong direction. Only as a way out.

Actually I could as I am now able to print directly with my laser printer onto blank card stock for a reasonable price (see my website for these brandnew items). But still I do not know if this is worth the effort and price.
I think Cardmaker here in Germany should have them done in a few weeks or months. A german magician involved a very clever deck that I produced for him. It is a Tossed Out deck with 7 different values which can be spread or fanned out as a complete deck before packing everything together and then going into the well known force. I never thought of producing this deck in larger quantities, but now as I can offer a new range of printed cards... Let´s see if there is a demand for it.

No, it was Jan Forster who had his special feature in the February issue of Magie, the magazine of the Magic Circle of Germany. There he described the handling and the preparation of the deck.
