Hey guys, I would love to get some assistance here. I would like pictures of bases for some research purposes. Do post pictures of your bases. I require all the different bases, even if its an Origami base. Even computer drawn 3d images are fine. Thanks a million guys. Now, lets see those bases.

Oh yes... and where can I get Rand Woodbury's book on bases? The one with the many different types of bases and their uses and functions.

Since the topic is bases, what are the current builders using to create their taper bases (not stepped). I have several Gaughan bases (molded fiberglass - awesome) and others built by the Edward's group (poly sheet with corners cut out and the sides bent to form the 20-30 deg. angle). I know Owen shows the wood taper in their plans, and Loomis has a taper base in wood well described on his Doll House video (excellent video).

But what is the standard, or the Cadillac method for building a good taper base today??? Material? Framing?

Nice base, but it looks like a stepped one. Is there a taper componant to it??

That base is a combo base with a step and taper.

What I did was first built it with the 2 steps, then using cardboard, traced each side from the bottom steps edge to the top steps edge, then miterd the corners. Then tranfered those templates to wood. I removeved the top step and installed the tapered wooden pieces.

So you made your taper using wood. Did you cover the outer part with a "skin" to add strength? Owen mentions canvas, I would think fiber glass would accomplish the same thing (add strength). Or just black felt?

Yes, it is made from wood.

Both of those bases are covered with black vinyl on the top sections, and black felt on the underside.

I'm sorry my delay to replay your posts, I have been very busy with my magic.

I have a sincere friendship with David Robinson. In fact, their web site doesn't show the Dekolta Chair and some other illusions, because he doesn't like to show their work to everyone, but if you have a sincere wish, please, send him one e-mail and ask him for the Dekolta Chair.

He will build my Spiker, and by the way, in my opinion and I believe, it is the most thinest base on the market today! This man knows the Art of Magic too.


About bases, I never liked when a magic builder show their work bases in perspective because by this way he try to hide some really inches to the buyer.

The builder must show their table base from the front and then you can estimate the real measure.

I`m talking about the photos of Brodgers.

I am not trying to hide anything with those pictures. If you look at the first picture:

You will see it is taken straight on, at a lowered level, with a light backround. Non of these attibutes would be in effect on a stage during real performance.



Also, if you want to know the real measure, just ask.

Hello my friend.

Like me many others performers work in hard conditions also, many times they don`t have a real stage with good lights.

Many times I work by day without any special lights or blackdrops with my big illusions, I`m " under fire " .

If I have a very good thin base I will work without any fear in the one stage with the right lights or in the day in " any " stage without special or adequate lights.

With your experience, you know what I said above means.

More, It seems to me that you had take the image of your base in perspective.

In my sincere opinon, any base more than 8" will looks thick.

When I write this do not means that I`m your enemy.

However, your base are in progress.

In my opinion the best is still the wedge type by Guy Jarret if you don't work surrounded. Second one would be a Zimmerman. The larger the beast the more deceptive it is.

I have no issues with your comments. I understand exactly what you are saying, and I agree.

The base in the first photo actually went to an illusionist who performs at fairs and festivals, which is in full daylight and outside.

Also, both bases are less then 8" in thinkness.
