I became a great admirer of Ted Lesley after reading his book 'Paramiracles'. When his L&L DVDs were released, I was happy to see him in action on screen, but sad that age and illness had taken their toll. And now, the bad news of his continued illness.
Ted has been a true 'giver' to the magic / mentalism community. May the combined prayers of all his fans and well wishers see him surmount his present travails and get well soon. |

I wish all of you could have seen the last show I saw Ted in. This was in March of 2004. The Parkinson's Foundation flew him in to be the headline act on their annual gala. Naturally, I was his "keeper." I did some walkaround in the VIP lounge. Afterwards, when Ted was announced, he strode out on the stage as if he had absolutely NO impairment whatsoever.
This was a huge room. There were 40 "rounds" as they call them in the hotel biz. That means there were 400 people sitting at round tables. There were video screens to each side of the riser that Ted used to perform upon. He opened with his triple card revelation. He performed the Sough of Horses Wings. And he closed with the linking finger rings. Each one of these was an absolute HAMMER! The crowd went berserk! Ted took a big bow, and walked offstage. Then the announcer mentioned for the first time that Ted was one of Dr. Jankovic's patients. The gasp from the audience indicated that everyone there who was a Parkinson's patient gained a bit of hope from watching Ted perform, apparently without impairment. If Ted had been treated by Dr. Jankovic prior to the L&L sessions, there would not have been the same kinds of problems. But we live and learn. I know Ted appreciates all of your kind thoughts and prayers. I will relay these to him from time to time, because he has no computer at his present location.

Here's to you Mr. Lesley, for giving so much, and asking for nothing back other than respect for one another..
One of mentalism's true gentlemen, in both senses of the word. Paramiracles was one of the first mentalism books I ever bought, and part of my "holy chronicles" that I go back to whenever I need help. Wishing you all the best Mr. Lesley, and to keep on keeping on... A subtle genius of a man if ever there was one..

Bill ~
Thank you for the updates. It brought to mind the superb lecture you arranged a few years back and the wonderful day I was able to spend with Ted. What a fountain of knowledge. Mentalism, magic, props, close-up, stage, his knowledge was vast and had ideas on everything. Send our best wishes to him. ~ Dan |

I will do that tomorrow. I'll phone him tomorrow afternoon -- his time -- and let him know that his friends are thinking about him.
Dan -- you remember the Marvoyan Money Miracle, I'm sure. Ted has been working on a series of variations on that theme that are absolutely mind-blowing. Imagine being able to do this in a public restaurant. Watch for a major manuscript very soon. So, his body may be falling apart, but his mind is still there.

Update on Ted:
I spoke to Ted just a few minutes ago. For the first time in many months, he sounded very much like "the old Ted," whom we all know. He was touched by the outpouring of friendship, love, good thoughts and prayers coming from all of us who know him, and those who barely do. He is in rehab now, and is working with the doctors to get back into some kind of decent shape. He said that he cannot even think about magic now, he MUST concentrate on getting back into good condition. But your thoughts and support will make this much easier for him. So, maybe Ulf Bolling-Borodin was right when he said that "our boy Ted" is immortal. Who knows? He did say that when he gets back home to where he can use his computer, he will make an appearance at the Café. So thanks to all of you from Ted Lesley.
