Because I know that many magicians are also musicians like myself, I want to acknowledge the passing of Dave Van Ronk on Sunday. Dave was a true legend in the world of acoustic guitar playing and was a major influence in the world of folk music. I was lucky enough to have taken lessons from him. He will be greatly missed. Performers such as Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell owe their start to Dave and yet he never received the fame and fortune of those he mentored and helped. But for thousands of people like myself, he was a life changing influence. Rest in peace, Dave.

I was not aware of Dave's influence on the music scene until NPR, yesterday, did a nice segment on his life and times.
He seemed like quite a guy. RIP. Ted (Leondo) |

Dave Van Ronk was indeed a major influence on a slew of musicians who later became well known, and influenced others as well.
His contribution to music will be felt for many years to come, may God watch over him.
