I have recently started a small collection of cups thanks to the influence of certain Café members and because I think they are, in the main, beautiful, craftsman made items.
I was wondering how many members are also cup collectors, anyone with more than one set of cups has a collection as far as I'm concerned and can own up here. I know there have been posts about favourite/dream/best etc set of cups but I cannot find one that asks collectors to come clean about their, is obsession too strong a word? There was also "Your cup collection@ started by lint, where people posted pictures of their cups. A "yes, I am a collector", will suffice but feel free to expand, how you started, what cups you own, anything. I will start: Yes, I am a collector. I have seven sets of cups and chop cups. I'm expecting more in a few weeks. Tom

I've been collecting for several years. The collection started by me just being curious about the 'feel' of two or three sets, then grew into an obsession. My collection consists of just over 100 sets of cups and around 20 Chop cups. I'm currently in the process of trying to tidy the collection up a bit to make room for future purchases (and to make room in the wardrobe for things like clothes).

Leave the clothes out Richard, they just get in the way of the cups.
Anyway, there's always the back of a chair! Tom

Not counting duplicate sets and only counting the ones my wife knows about...nevermind..... Let's just say I am a collector.... RNT2, Sherwoods, and various others (some Johnsons, 1 Riser (minis), 1 Von Dokkum, 1 Colin Rose, and my first set of cups from the late-eighties that I don't know who made, plus a few more minis...) ...... Total sets is definitely well over a hundred, but I think about 15-20% are chopped cups.
I don't have the cups on display, I just pull out whatever I want to work with... Right now, the cups that I have out are, 1)a set of RNT2 PF Stainless Steels, 2) RNT2 Mendoza Combos, 3) Brass Sherwoods, 4) RNT2 Pink Beauties, and 5) Johnson brass cups... I also have a wood chop cup out from RNT2 and a church bronze mini stubby from RNT2 out.. I have a RNT2 PF Chop Cup out right now, but have not started working with it yet.... This does not include any of my Frank Starsinic cups (various dice and chopped leather cups....) I also have a Mike Rogers and a Gazzo leather dice cup plus a few other dice cups from other makers.. |

I have eight sets but am not a collector.
Playing cards on the other hand I collect and must have five or six hundred different decks by now. I haven't counted them in a couple of years. Odd, I perform Cups and Balls but don't collect cups. I collect cards but don't do card tricks or even play card games.
