Before Gary passed away his website listed the illusions he "created", who had the rights, and what other illusions were available. I think even his asking price was listed. Not sure if his son still has the illusions available, but that is not what I am primarily interested in.
Here is my question.....can his old pages on the net be found???? Did anyone save them in a file??? I never did make a hard copy for my files. Also...what illusionists did he consult for (more than just an effect), I know Choquette, Copperfield, were there any others???? Blair Marshall "ShaZzam!"

Blair, go read my answer on GREG FREWIN, it will help you to know a little bit more about Mr. Gary OUELLET ... (No "E" at the end Blair). He really wasn't just a magic promoter.

Hey Michael,
Alain would not remember, LOL (You have to know Alain!), but I did drop a note to Guy to see if he would remember the old web site name. SB: That password does ring a bell. Magicque: Not sure if you missed my comment, or are correcting it, I mentioned that Gary was good at self-promotion. (He was a good promotor of magic also!) RE. for info: Other performer's shows he worked on, or wrote: Melinda (stage and t.v.), Luis de Mateos (? Sp.), Steve Wyrick Blair Marshall "ShaZzam!"

Now you can see how clever was Mr. Gary Ouellet! He was the best!
He also worked with Luis De Matos (he was in Portugal when he died from a heart attack) and Hans Klok. |

Mentioned Luis, but forgot about Hans. Thank-you for that.
"He was the best!" Magicque, are you related to Gary??? Here is what Goldrake has to say about Gary and his illusions on the Frewin thread...... "Although I was not friends with Gary, we were very friendly acquaintances. As regards the vanishing of the 25 dancers, he merely asked Jonathan if he could make a large group of people disappear. Jonathan then developed the entire effect, method and presentation (some of which he had already previsouly used). Airtime was my creation. I showed the concept to Gary in the early nineties and although he looked interested, he dismissed it. Several years laters, "Airtime" was being performed by Melinda and John Gabriel. When I confronted him with it, he claimed to have forgotten that. I could go on with a lot of anecdotes describing Gary's "amnesia" and general way of thinking, however that would be pointless and unfair, since he's not there to "defend" himself anymore." Yeah...If this story is true, I would be disappointed. But as I said in another post, Gary is not here to defend himself so...
No Blair, I'm not related to Gary. But I really felt proud of him because he was born in Québec City and I'm from the province of Québec! Let me share a little story! In 1999 I called him when he was in California. We discussed about his effects...As he was discussing about a method for vanishing an elephant or other moving objects in the middle of a stage... I was thinking "no way"...It really was a bizarre method! I didn't beleive it at first...Then, Gary told me: "Hey Eric! Do you have a fax?!"...I gave him my fax number and he sent me the methods for 4 of his illusions...The guy was kind and really clever! And you know what? He never told me that I had to send him money...He was just helping me. And I'll always thank him wherever he is for doing that. The only regret I have now is that I never had a chance to work with him on my show. Regards, E |

Magicque: I was a little surprised at Goldrake's story, and do not want to really get into that aspect of Gary.
However, Gary "walked the line", collecting info, reading, watching countless nameless performers performing, how much of his "invention" was original material, and how much was "borrowed" is hard to say. But after awhile, what is "yours", and what is "theirs" (ie. other performer's property), can become very blurred. And you can easily cross the line. "he sent me the methods for 4 of HIS illusions" - Are you sure they were HIS to give??? What was your experience and knowledge at that point in time?? He shared these ideas with you privately, so no one could say whether they were just ideas he collected. Blair Marshall "ShaZzam!" P.S. I enjoyed Gary's personality, his close-upperformance skills, and the close-up material he published. Pro-control is still one of the strongest weapons in my close-up arsenal!!
