It seems like no matter how much I practice Tom Craven's Wizard, I miss sometimes. It's principle & method and the added benefit of working with another magician.

I screw up every trick that I do not practice enough - hence I only incorporate a trick into my repertoire after intensive practice.
Want to say that there is no specific trick I mess up . . .

Resurrecting an old thread here. I've been practicing a Frank Garcia move with billiard balls where one ball splits into two in the air. Just can't seem to get the knack for this one. Also the Crash Link with the Ninja Rings.

I have one great nemesis which have taunted me for years. It is one of the easiest most basic classics there is; Twisting The Aces.
I can not do this trick without flashing one of the other aces in the pack. I have a success rate of maybe 20% on it at best. The rest of the time it goes wrong. So even though I have practiced it on and off for over two years, I have never performed it for anyone. And I don't think I ever will. My hands just aren't steady enough. I also suffer from a complete inability to do simple math, but Clocking actually isn't so bad for me, although I have never performed it and had to do it under fire.

I have two tricks that always get me. I can preform them fantasticly in front of a mirror or camera, and then with my eyes closed. Then when I perform them, it's like my hands won't cordinate (I've become real good at making my mistakes appear as though they are part of the trick, so I start my "routine" with everywhere and nowhere, so when somthing goes out of sorts, they just think back to the first trick). But enough rambling, the two tricks at the moment (that I've stopped performing for the time being) are Gypsy Curse and Tom Stone's Among the Madmen.

The one thing that I really avoid, because I never really hit it with the regularity that I would like, is "Flippant". I don't know what it is, but whilst I can turn over the card(s), I very rarely hit it 'square'.
I realise that there are covering actions etc. but I avoid using the move because of my reluctance to leave the move exposed. Maybe a "Flippant" expert can help? Alan |

I am still trying to get my dl solid enough to use in actual performance! It is frustrating - I feel great about my shift, my double undercut, my side steal. I use all of these in performance. I can top change and I have a few controls that I love. I do a thurston 5 card vanish and production in performance but I have no confidence in my dl! My problem is I frequently hit a triple by mistake. When I try to avoid this, my get ready takes an awkward amount time.
Don't worry, I am working on it. I will get it. Of course any advice would be appreciated. |

A pinky count would solve this instantly. Not easy to learn, but nothing worthwhile comes easy.................

Tell me about it!
I wish I could employ my pinky count "instantly" but it has taken years. I have mastered some hard stuff in my time. Heck I can read greek. But my pinky count just sucks. It is frustrating because I started working on my dl long long ago and have mastered many things that other people can't do while still sucking at the dl. I really want it to be solid because it is a sleight that specs are somewhat aware of anyway so I can't fumble around with my get ready. And when you hit that triple by mistake... well you just ruined a whole trick. |

I'm still having trouble with the top shot (I can only get it about 1/3 of the time so far). One of these days... ;-)
Scaevola, what type of dl are you using and/or how are you getting your break (if applicable)?

I use a get ready with my right thumb and then turn over the double like a book. My finger sensitivity is poor. I have a hard time telling if I am counting two or three cards.
This confession is having me look through the previous threads on the dl. I really want to get this down. |

The thing that I mess up the most is probably the erdnase system of stock shuffling. I also cannot for the life of me do the one handed cut, the cards always end up on the floor.
Ah well, I guess I probably should go practice. Robert |

Gambling routines; specifically complex ones that utilise the G******** Principle. Sheeeeeeeeeeez. Somehow I'll muck up the 25th phase (of 26) and have to start the whole bl**dy thing all over again. This aint in performance mind you.

Well we still mess up even with practice and use all of the time. I recently started using oddly colored cards or mixing decks of odd colored backs. The through off my color changes completely, the backs weren't the same so things had to be moved around and prepared before I could start. I can do the color changes perfect, but the new colors were still odd.
As for a single trick, my change bag routine (i know not cards). I loose the silk in with the others some times and have to improvise; normally comes over just fine. The worse screw up was when the arm chopper actually did, I about cried when I saw it not work and had a little kids hand in there. Blades not sharp but hurts like heck. It however was not my fault as everything was set, the trick failed to perform its duties properly. To this day, I don't perform the wrist chopper the same way. Maybe a tip for the dl, practice with a Svengali to get the feel of two. Design of the deck makes it easier to get both cards.
