I've been practicing Oil and Water as described in Mark Wilson's CCIM utilizing the Glide, and have been practicing it also using a bottom buckle. Can't decide which way to go. Any thoughts?

I personally don't use Mark Wilson's routine because on Joshua Jay's Talk About Tricks DVD, it has an easy and powerful routine, if you have the DVD, I rec. you using it, the best ive seen so far.

There are a number of highly visual and powerful routines for this effect. The ones that I prefer at this moment in time are by John Carney and Guy Hollingworth as well as a few moves that I have come up with on my own.
Check out the books Carneycopia and Drawing Room Deceptions for the routines by John and Guy. Corey |

The only oil and water type effect I perform is called Urokinase. It's in Chapter 23 of my new book, Kingdom of the Red and also taught on the Companion DVD. It uses 4 red cards and 4 black cards and nothing more.

Colombini has a routine on his A1 videow called Italian Salad, and like most of his effects, easy to do and very good....

I do one which I am not sure is original that looks fair but even so, involves a clean false count. It's an in-the-hands O&W using the four Aces.

Guys, the question from dobber was a different one. The answer is, which ever move you are most comfortable with and does has less finger movement, visible to the spectators. As I do not know your handlings of the glide and the buckle, it is difficult to say.
I would recommend the glide though, but that is a personal choice Andy

Definitely the glide. if you buckle you can flash that, with the glide the card is flush with the deck so you wont flash
...for the 51st time... that is NOT my card...

Thank you Andy, for clarifying my original point.
When I practice the buckle in front of a mirror, it flashes unless I tilt the deck at an unnatural angle. I guess I'll go with the glide. Thanks, dobber |

Check out the book "Focus" by Phil Goldstien. I believe there are couple different oil and waters and even some reverse effects where the cards magically mix themselves, and some where the cards are mixed face up and face down instead of by color. I also recommend the Talk about Tricks DVD set. the oil and water routine is great. There are also a bunch of other gems in there.

In his book the Giant book of Card Tricks Bob Longe does a three phase routine that is excellent and more or less self working

Check out "The Devils Own Oil and Water" - you get a really clean effect, and end with examinable cards.

That's really a nice Oil & Water from Anthony Owen. Slowly nice and clean! Good work.

Jerry Mentzer also has a routine for O&W in his book aptly named, Packet Tricks.

I'll vote for the bottom buckle. It just works for me I guess.

I would suggest that the handlings to be found in Focus, although valuable, are a huge step in difficulty from those in CCIM. Keep on with the routine you are using - and hope you have decided between the two.
