Good promo material but the lighting is a bit dark, as mrbilldentertainer pointed out. Well done anyway.

Mr Bill D and JamesTong,
I can't overly disagree with your statements, but it was shot and edited for TV not youtube. So, although it perhaps should have been altered for youtube it looks excellent on a television. My website version is far clearer but takes a bit to stream or download. Heres the site though if you'd like to see a much clearer version. http://www.TheJasonBishopShow.com Cheers, Jason |

You have to love the people who post messages about marketing, wardrobe, lighting, personality, etc. without knowing the performer, the show, or the intended audience. Instead they should be encouraging to a performer such as Jason who obviously takes magic seriously and has taken risks with original illusions. If more performers worked as hard on their show as Jason has, maybe there wouldn't be as many bored audiences at magic shows.

Checked the website video. Still need better lit shots of the audience but it was brighter. Need to see them smiling.
We are encouraging him by offering advice to better things. I am a talent buyer (and so are others on these forums)and am part of the target market for act such as his. I supply acts to various venues and festivals. From his promo, I am telling him what I see he needs to improve. I would honestly be hesitant to booking him because I (as Tim pointed out) am not seeing his talent, just his illusions. I can get a bum off the street to perform illusions. The difference between the bum and a professional may be the talent. Jason, you are on the right track, there's no doubt about that. Just need to tweak a few things for promotional purposes. |

Bill,
Braintrust is still right. You say you could book me in your venues or festivals, but again you don't know my markets so you don't even know if that is true. And "the shots need to be brighter". Actually no they don't, I don't have an unlimited budget. You do have to work with what you have. That promo cost thousands and without being cocky, its excellent. Not perfect but it is outstanding (that comes from real world industry sources). Thanks for your nice comments and thanks for your insight and suggestions. But, some of your tone is ridiculous. Comparing me to a bum? Read what you wrote you might not have meant it that way but it reads insultingly. Best, Jason P.S. from a professional stand point I would suggest that your Photo Album section on your website actually have photos. I would be hesitant to work with someone who is that overlooking of details. |

Don't buy a suit. Keep the shirt untucked. Keep the look. Looks like a perfect college show. I think you've figured that out.

Bravo Tim, what was the music that you used for that trick? (Don't know if you guys got that, but it was funny to me). I coincide you are correct. But safari is a respectable browser and I would try to be aware of a site's ability to work with multiple browsers. Tim would you have any interest in addressing the rest of my last post. I'm curious to your opinions on that. BTW thanks to all of the people who have expressed your opinions I actually do appreciate it. I have learned however that because someone is emphatic it doesn't make them right. I did respond to Bill out of irritation and I still believe I was right to.

Woooo what happened here? I went to the store and I come back and a nice post starts to erupt! Cmon guys! There are things to be said by the few that actually perform for a living and those that do not. As noted no need to take everything to heart. Jason, good work try and show a bit more in your promo, as I think others try to say, show why you are different from everyone else, convey that your someone that is worth it, they don't want another 'Dirk A.....' who has proved that with an unlimited budget his show is still not worth it. I spoke to one of your old assistants and she had great things to say about you, so keep your cool and keep the magic alive!

Jason, if you post your demo for everyone to see with the heading "Have you seen this performer?", your going to get feedback whether you want it or not. By the nature of this posting, you might as well have titled it "Please critique everything you can". You must have known that, and you have got the results.

I am sorry you took the bum thing to heart. I wasn't saying your are a bum, but you seem to be missing the point of some of the posters. In the video, what makes you unique compare to others with very similar videos?
So, in order to help us better understand since it keeps coming up. What is your target market? Do you want to perform in theatres? Critique my website all you want. It doesn't bother me. I know what needs to be done. I have asked the advice of some people here on the Café and continually ask. I was and still am offering you some real world advice. I haven't slammed anything about the video. It's decent. |

Bill,
Critique is fine. Perhaps I know the strong and weak areas of my own marketing materials. BTW, I didn't miss the point of any posters, I even respectfully addressed most of the issues and comments. Your opinion is fine and absolutely right, for you. But not just absolutely right. I appreciate you thinking my video is "decent", that is so nice of you. Hey, Mirror Images it was nice meeting you in Colon also. Jason |

So now I am curious, what is the market you are working, and what market are you targeting (trying to work). (These can be different!) ie. You could be working the fundraising circuit, trying to make the jump to a stand alone show for the theatre market.

Well..well...well,
Now that we have finished kicking Jason (the new guy) around and he survived it and didn't run away we can say his is now officially initiated into the Magic Café. Hooray!!! You took your lumps well Jason! I think you'll do well here and I hope you stick around. You'll find lots more battles and even more friends. Please feel free to jump in and contribute as well. You'll see that although its sometimes a bit bumpy we mostly mean well and intend to be helpful. Regards the Safari browser trick.... I noticed you are a mac user as I am so I tried Bills site with Safari and noticed the same issue then I tried it in Firefox and all was fine. I use both browsers as each has the odd bug on some sites. Firefox will not display the "E" with the accent over it as used in the Café. I don't see Café but instead see Caf? in many of the thread headers. LOL Best, Tim |

Wow so that's what it takes to be initiated...? Will think twice to send my new promo:) Jason congrats on your promo, I like your look and style, you are still young and that style suits you, looks like you have achieved a lot already for your age! The guys with the tucked out shirt comments, it is the 21st century and black tucedo's are not exactly the in fashion anymore! ( Ok unless you are Lance Burton LOL)
