Here are some not so deep thoughts about popularity of chair routines....
1. Pack VERY small and flat - takes up enough stage to look like an illusion show. 2. Plays for a good length of time without being milked. 3. Simple for people to understand, and in most of the better routines, they remember the effect for days after the show (though generally the reconstruction is quite different than the actual effect). 4. They get to participate, and often have some actual fun, as it appears they are in control, not being controlled. 5. For the theorist, the actual effect varies within a fairly narrow range. But the methods (forcing, equivoce, multiple outs, etc.) are nearly infinite, and thus all methodists are encouraged that that they can find an even better way to do this. |

Glad to have found this thread, it's interesting to me that it ended 10 years ago, lots of great thoughts here.
