In my humble opinion,
“Circe’s Rest” was a place for the light-hearted tea-loving teetotalers, and the good boys-and-girls in magic who never caused much trouble. Gauthier LeMage never did visit there, and Louis Cypher couldn’t be caught dead there. While Tony Walters and the Tale-Teller hung out at Circe’s Rest only when the DOAB&P was closed-- or to entertain politically correct guests with tea and cookies. It makes sense it would be run by a lady with an editorial soul, rather than the “hell raisers” who frequented the other place, and who’s language could rarely be written down, let alone edited into polite English! Maybe it’s sour grapes as the Bar & Pub had to be torn down for the good of urban renewal, while the “Rest” sits there resting to this day I understand. Now only this classic BOOK chronicles the exploits of the place-- and let me tell you, even Circe kicks up her heals after a pint-or-two of Sam Adams, not the same lady who “runs the restful Rest” at all. Clown nose indeed!!!! My two-cents, Walt |

Baba--
it was a small group that formed almost by accident at the beginning, and there were a lot of folks we thought of inviting in, but then we needed to keep things fairly simple, then there was the need for secrecy back then, and no one knew it would all go so FAR! I know your Vodou powers will bless rather than curse our efforts, and if ever there is a reunion of The Devil of a Bar & Pub I know you'd fit right in... like butter on bread. Buy the book and pour out a mug of Sam Adams and you'll still feel part of the gang. YOUR book is a true treasure, and has been of great practical help to me as I venture into Vodou and Séance work. Blessings Bro! Walt |

A great book. I have the privilege of readin the early tales from the pub. To see those stories grow into this tome is a real treat.

I am truly enjoying reading it. It is a very nicely produced package of materials to say the least. Great book. Thanks to everyone involved in the project. For some strange reason though, all I think about while reading it is drinking Sam Adams. Anyone else having this problem or am I just a raging alcoholic?

I *think* I may be one of the only characters in the DOAB&P
who orders ginger-ale, I sort of insisted on that being that I'm not a beer fan of any sort. So pull up a stool and order your ale, ginger or Adams. No in-depth reviews on here as yet? Magically, Walt |

Ok, So I am new to the bizarre and storytelling genre of magic, and am starting to learn more and research more. I got a few of Jim Magus' books, as well as Invocation. I also received a book from this same publisher by a guy named KOTAH which was really amazing in its own twisted way BUT.... I have to say this: I was a little hesitant to take a chance on this book, just because it was pricey- AM I GLAD I DID!
I wasn't familiar with the Shadow Network, though I used to read Shadow's column in MUM. This book is wonderful and charming and their are over 85 effects in the book, so it came to a buck a trick. The book is a small sized hard cover book, about 400 pages. If I had a beef I'd have liked slightly thicker paper, but this really is a minor quibble. By the time I was half way through I wanted to GO to this bar and meet these weird people! Anyway, the routines are all simple things based on stuff I knew or know- and I could TOTALLY see weaving a continued story through a small story driven show and talk about the pub- Other effects I fell in love with and am re-writing to fit me. I got a bonus CD with mine, and that had art work ready to go for some of the effects, and I really enjoyed that too. All nicely done, and I have to say I decided it was fair for the price! Good job scribe(s) |

383 pages of delight. Full cover dust jacket w' mirror image name tag teasers as to who the contriburors are. Hard Bound tome plus a bonus DVD whic gives background, and allows certain props and graphics to be printed on your computer.
I think you will find the Scribes work most magical on several levels Wonderful routines from a veritible who's- who in bizarre magick. My thanks and congratulations to all participants. Kotah |

Okay, I know this is dumb, but. . .
Could you guys go down to the book review area and vote for this. A very small part of myself really wants a bizarre book to be the best book of the year. I know, I know, who cares what a bunch of magicians think, right? It's the principle of the thing, though. . . Raven

BEWARE!
The end of October draws nigh.... And after the magical midnight of Halloween…. Leaping Lizard Publishing may not be able to gift to you the BONUS CD-ROM which is a wonderful addition when you purchase the now lauded (and nearly famous) book THE DEVIL OF A BAR AND PUB If you were thinking this is a tome you should own... Now is the time to act to ensure you get the CD too. 'nuf said??? Louis Cypher (one of your hosts at DOAB&P) |

My god, this is a great book. I started reading it very quickly the day I got it, but then forced myself to slow down and stick to one or two chapters a day. It must be savored. I just finished it yesterday. This is my favorite kind of magic book - mostly simple effects with intriguing story lines. Plus, the format itself, a series of reports, is a fun story in and of itself. Now as to the cd . . . folks if you don't get it, you're going to wish you had, for it contains not only some of the artwork that allows you to do some of the effects, but contains some extra reports. Upon finishing it yesterday afternoon in front of the fire (with my Sam Adams at hand), I was filled with an overwhelming desire to visit. Sadly, the bar is no more, but you can be sure that the next time I'm in Boston . . .
Anyway, to all involved, good show!! Mark

Being fairly new to the bizarre book club, the thing that strikes the me the most (no not that it is 350 + pages long)regarding this book is the effects run the gamut. From an effect done with cookies to Tarot, magnetism, cards, coasters (of all things), etc... Something for everyone even if you own a Tarantula (wish I still had my rosehair t.)

The promise of the bonus CD was what pushed me over the line and I ordered it earlier today. I'd been thinking of getting the book for a while, so it's not just some fetish for CD's that made me buy it.

While I do have a fetish for audio cds (and have an embarrassingly large collection), I, too, have been mulling over purchasing this book, and the deadline for the accompanying cd also finally compelled me.

Wow, a little extra high-tech and the book is a hit!
Kidding aside, it really is convenient to be able to print out a few props. And the added routines are great. Like was said above, if you don't care for one page you'll love the next, something for all storytelling tastes. Post here and tell us which are your own favorites! Wednesday is the end of the month, unless you can get Dean to extend his offer. Magically, Walt |
