Roham,
Just replied to your PM regarding that. It will smell and taste like beer if you do exactly as I described on the PM. 100% positive.

Ok, my review after a short time with the effect:
Review in a nutshell (these are actual critical grades, no "10/10" for everything here; real magic = 10, looks just like real magic but isn't is a 9, completely unworkable is 1): Water to beer DVD: 7.5 (above average value for money) out of 10 Water to beer refill: 2 (workable, does what it says, but severe issues) out of 10 In depth review: DVD: Short, poor sound quality. With that being said, you get exactly what you pay for. You learn the method itself as well as two approaches to performing it. You also get a basic breakdown of where to get everything you need. I think, for the money, you should have gotten some of the actual stuff WITH the DVD though. I also would have preferred to see some trouble-shooting (I ran into two major problems that were not addressed in the DVD). Effect: Looks great. Smells great. Taste... this is one of the issues and I PMed jay about it. Not too worried about the issues but cannot be definitive because of... Review of "Water to Beer Refill Kit": Totally overpriced, first of all. You get two "things" in it. One of which is easy to find at most magic shops anyway, so I was more concerned with the other component. Well, for $18 ( http://www.elmwoodmagic.com/full/Magic-T......5703.htm ) I got slightly less than ONE use out of the other component. This was a complete joke except it totally upset me. LESS THAN ONE USE? I mean, yes, you get some of the other stuff but it is pretty much worthless if you don't have both components. So, there it is, a great effect with a so-so DVD and limited explanations. With that being said, a 7 is really, really good. As for the refill kit, don't waste your time unless you really, really can't find the items. However, I found distributors, world-wide, in about 30 seconds last night. If you can't find it, I highly recommend learning how to do google searches. Honestly, the stuff is super easy to get and don't be a chump like me who believed people who couldn't find it. Once I get a reasonable amount of the other stuff (at least 50 times as much for the same price as the refill kit) I will give a more in depth answer regarding taste. L |

I am concerned about the paper used in this effect.
I sent an email to the company to order some and they said you cannot drink it. It's not Yet FDA approved. Those who have it know what I mean. I am really concerned now. Any other way to go around this?
Yours,
Ivan |

Niva,
I also sent an email to the company on the earlier stages of developing the effect and they stated it's safe. I've performed it hundreds of times, and so far nobody got sick or died, even me! That's great news eh? It's safe, but if you are still concerned, yes, there is another way around it. PM me and I'll surprise you Best Wishes

I just ordered this item so I don't have a review yet. Forgive me if this explanation wouldn't work or is already described, but it seems like you could justify the flat taste of the beer (if it comes up) by saying that it could be from shaking the beer during the changing process. I am a college performer and can't wait to get this effect. An advantage of having friends who drink the cheapest beer possible is that they most likely won't notice any taste difference anyway, especially after having a few. I will post a review as soon as I get this.

Apparently my first order of this dvd disappeared in the mail (an extra effect I hadn't planned on). Penguin agreed to send me another one but in the meantime I was wondering if someone could pm me a few places were I could order some refills. This way I don't receive the dvd (after waiting 2 1/2 weeks) then have to wait to perform it while refills are in the mail. I know their are the refills available from penguin, but it seems like that isn't the route to go. Thanks in advance.

Here's a problem. I don't think Jay realizes this, but if you sell a product in the US, and you claim that it is safe to drink, then it MAY fall under FDA regulations, because things you drink are considered food under the law. This causes a couple of potential problems.
1) Any dealer who sells it, knowing that it has not passed FDA approval, may get in trouble with the feds. 2) Even if the manufacturer says, "Oh, yeah, It's safe to drink, my kid drinks it all the time," that doesn't mean anything. There are two ways to fix this. 1) Get FDA approval for the special chemicals. This will cost thousands of dollars and may also take several months. 2) Put a warning on the package or in the instructions that states that the compound has not been found safe under FDA regulations, so you shouldn't drink it. With all of the trouble we have had lately from things coming in from overseas that had strange chemicals in them, this is a major concern for importers. Failure to do this can cause importation of a product to be banned. The fellow who really made his name performing Water to Beer was Bob Hummer. He was also the originator of the Card Through Window. He would finish his busking act with the production of a full mug of beer from his hat or from under his jacket. He always drank the beer. This may have led to his death. His "beer" was made from vinegar and soda. Over time, the combination of the chemicals ate away at the lining of his stomach. He died of stomach cancer.

Bill,
I'm sorry but you don't know what you are talking about. Thanks for the lessons about FDA regulations. I'm sure everyone appreciates it. Not having something approved by FDA doesen't means that it's not safe to drink, in fact one of the "gimmicks" that you are referring, is made of something 100% drinkable and non toxic because it's made of FOOD. Non toxic in my magic encyclopedia means "no harm". There are also many other solutions that can replace that special something and still perform this effect. And FYI that same "gimmick" has been available from magic dealers for YEARS because it's SAFE. It's not something new that I introduced in the market. Cheers
