Halloween is quickly approaching! Who will be giving a trick instead of a treat? How about the Haunted Deck or The Web! What will you do?

This Halloween I will call upon Anna Eva Fay, an effect with her tokens, spirit slates, the Hand of Cleopatra and her floating table.
But for home Halloween decor, one of the items I purchased this year was an item called "Possessed Books". Cute device but has very cheesy "spooky sounds" that I could not allow. Just one quick knife punch into the speaker area and the thunder and rain sounds are gone and the books still maintain their functionality. Scared myself a couple of times. http://www.geekologie.com/2007/07/possessed_books.php Someday I'll upgrade to this... http://www.frightprops.com/FrightProps/Props/Books/ |

For a nice 'trick', how would your wife/girlfriend enjoy waking up with one of these babies on her bedside table?!?!
http://stores.ebay.com/Tibetan-Secrets How's that for adding a touch of realism to your presentations. Particularly the one that is estimated at 600 years old. |

Haunted Deck and the Haunted Dollar Bill. Or how about some sleight of hand; showing some chewed up gum or candy in a crinkled up wrapper and then turning it into new candy/gum. Although, I don't know if kids would want to eat the new stuff after what you just did.

Eddie,
Look here http://www.halloweenmonsterlist.info/ under Haunted Books/Bookshelf and you will find at least four versions that you can build yourself. A great effect that fits anything from a seance to a haunted house. Dave |

Jim Gerrish is busy building his new front porch illusion for Halloween. It is called "Eisenheim's Ghost" based on a computer graphic illusion as seen in the movie "The Illusionist." I asked him to write it up for The Wizards' Journal #13 (on my site), which he did, and I will try to add photos of the actual illusion from his porch display on Halloween. It is designed to be roughed up quickly as a display illusion, so it's not too late to build one for this year. But then once it's built, you can refine it to be used as a stage illusion the rest of the year, or for parlor seances, or anyplace where you need to conjure up "half a ghost."
My own front porch illusion will feature my living head floating around the doorframe, but that's another story.

Raise The Thing-Bill Abbott's invisible ghost-from an urn. (You do have an urn next to the candy bowl, right?) After "revealing" the invisible ghost by pulling off the cloth, pretend to have "lost" it. Explain to the children that it is probably hiding in one of their candy bags. Reasure them that the ghost doesn't eat--candy. Advise them, just to be safe, not to put their hands into their bags again until an exorcism can be performed. Smile gently and send them on their way.
Yes of course it's a joke. No one should do this to small children. Jr. High ok. |

No one ever comes by our place for Halloween. We've had six trick or treaters in the last five years.
I throw my son a Halloween party, though, and rig things up to scare him and his friends. When the party is over and my son is in bed, I drink a bottle of red wine and go through the standard ritual: 1. I watch a movie (which changes from year to year. Last year I watched the Changling with George C. Scott). 2. I play "exmortis" on the internet. 3. I visit Eddie Garland's website. Then it's midnight and I finish the wine and go to bed feeling sorry for myself that I live in a country that doesn't celebrate Halloween. *sigh* Jeff |

In my neighborhood things have petered out for Halloween. We get a very few tiny kids with their parents hovering in the background to keep them safe. It is really a shame that it has come to this, even in our well-behaved and relatively safe neighborhood. Perhaps it has to do with alternative Halloween attractions and private parties.

Docsteve, maybe you misunderstood: they aren't coming to *anybody's* house. Here in Germany only a few mavericks decide to try trick or treating.
Otherwise, I get your point. *If* someone comes this year, maybe I should do something. Jeff |

Ah Jeff - I DID misunderstand, sorry.
Is Walpurgisnacht celebrated? And yes, won't hurt to be prepared I guess, IF someone shows up. Steve
