I just saw and met Richard Sanders a couple weeks ago at a convention and was exposed to his rope material. He has a DVD out called Fiber Optics that has some very visual stuff. It's some of the best rope material I've seen. I think that everyone, if interested in rope magic, would find something in there that they could use. This isn't a topic for discussion... I just wanted to say, Fiber Optics is awesome and Richard is real nice guy.

Welcome to the world of rope magic. I suggest you look around the "knots and loops" section, because there is a plethora or excellent stuff discussed here. Although Fiber Optics is one of the best rope routines out, there are many others just as good.
Happy reading Al

I'm looking to add rope magic to my act, is Fiber Optics as good as it looks in the preview? Also, how do people react to the routine, or the effects thereof?
Thanks for your help, T.G.D

Hi Great Danton,
Yes, Fiber Optics is as good as it looks in the preview. I've performed it many times and it's always received with wide eyes and open mouths. This would be a great addition to your act. Regards, Steve

I do think FO is very nice but also agree with Paddy about Mongolian Pop! I never tire from watching Mr Haydn perform that trick and it cracks me up every time!

Always bear in mind what will work for you. There is only one Whit Haydn, one Mac King, and one Mike Finney. Those guys are funny without any props.

If you go back and take a closer look at Richard Sanders's demo you will notice the ryhthm he uses makes his presentation unique. The speed in which Richard works makes it look like the rope is just jumping out of his hands. He has really raised the bar for other rope magicians.

I've been working on Fiber Optics for several months now, and am almost ready to perform it. I was already doing Three Ropes and a Baby, so it was just a matter of adding the new phases to it. I love the routine.

Just pointing out the link to Sander's Fiber Optics Extended. Looks as if the new DVD is coming out the end of this month.

With Richard's 8 new moves a person could hypathetically do his routine for a 1/2 an hour or more.

Have you seen it, Al? The demo has some nice looking moves but it will be interesting to discover if there's much that's truly new (eg beyond the Full Circle/Roland Henning moves).

I have only seen the demo, but there is a limit to what you can do taking all those sources that you mentioned into consideration. I have three versions of three rope routines that I do now. After 5 minutes you tend to lose your audience.

Quite. I think five minutes of that stuff is enough, and five minutes is easy to fill with just the original FO routine.
It's interesting to see the demo, though. The original routine no longer looks very magical to me, but the new moves do. It restores my faith that audiences are seeing the original as magical.
