Thought I would share this with everyone, as some of you might get some use out of it.
For a year or so I used mainly PAR 56 fixtures, plus a few other things. They worked great, but there were some drawbacks such as dimmer packs, and the heat they put off. And how fun it it when you blow a fuse in the middle of the show and everything goes dark? HAHA I decided to switch over to new LED lighting, and let me tell you, they are fantastic! I recently used them at a hour-long show, and at the end, they were not hot at all! It was awesome! My lighting now consists of eight PAR56's (LED), four PAR 36's (LED), two pinspots and a couple scanners. For anyone who is considering LED's, let me go over the benefits as to why they are so much better... 1) NO HEAT 2) DMX 512 controllable/no dimmer packs 3) Fairy lightweight 4) 100,000 hour bulbs 5) Ability to change to something like 17.4 million colours 6) Very pure light 7) Soft edges 8) Considering all they do, they are cheap 9) Low power consumption 10) Did I mention NO HEAT? Also, to make set-up super easy I had a local lighting place (Sherwood Systems) fabricate some custom 'System Cubes' for me. Basically they are aluminum 'cages' that house the fixtures, and the *** unit can be placed on a stand or hung from a pipe. Here's some pics... This beats simply transporting the lights on a 'T-Bar' where they can easily be scratched up, versus this system where the lights are protected for th most part. Any local welding shop that can work with aluminum can fabricate these, and they are a very worth-while investment as they cut down set-up time tons! Just thought I would share this with you as someone might like the idea. If anyone has any questions about anything, feel free to ask! Sam |

Hey Sam,
Thanks for the info it looks like you have a cool rig. What brand of lights did you go with and was there a big brightness difference between the old par56 and the new led par56 fixtures? Fitz

Sam, What's the weight on each of these? And what kind of tower are you raising them up on??? Looks like a pain to raise up on an ultimate-style tower.....would prefer at the very least a crank tower!

Fitz, the LED fixtures I'm using are from Microh, they are very nice.
More info can be found here: http://www.microhpro.com/ledp64.html The lights are not as 'bright' as the regular PAR fixtures, but the light they give off is very intense and pure. It's hard to describe, the light they but off is very unique. Adam, Since the fixtures and the cages are all aluminum, the weight (just taking a guess here) is only about 30lbs or so, maybe a little more. When needing to use stands, we use a couple Hercules crank-up light stands. They're awesome! Check them out here: http://www.herculesstands.com/lightsspea......nds.html Its not hard at all to raise on to the stand... One person can do it, but it's super easy with two people! Sam |

What do you use to do your lighting cues throughout the show?
