Thanks Maylor. It is much appreciated. It just troubles me to see such a lack of creativity in magic or the lack of people willing to try and me creaive. I know it takes work but anything good always does. The point I was trying to make above is that anyone can be creative. Anyone at all can learn to be a creative thinker in magic. I also feel my audiences and the art of magic deserves me to put that effort forward. I know I benefit so greatly from it. Sure it takes me longer to create some routines sometimes, but when you are creative, you enjoy the creative process and the end result is something you may not have even dreamed of before.

Thank you James. It is much appreciated my friend. I just think too many of us manipulators fall into the bad habit of redoing things we have seen before in the past. This can be from shows we have seen or dvds we own. We get excited by what we watch and we then end up reusing the same basic ideas in our own acts. This is just a force of habit that many of us fall in.

However, we can break out of that habit. We can do so by learning to think outside of the box. When one realizes that the moves of manipulative magic are just that.. moves, then we can really understand that these moves can become "tools". Like any good craftsman, the artisan knows just which "tools" to use to create a masterpiece of art.

Basically we can learn that the moves we know in manipulative magic are tools that can be applied to numerous objects. The problem is we do not "see" well. We have a hard time looking past the obvious cards, billiard balls, thimbles, cigerettes or coins.

However, if one can learn that these things mentioned above are only basic shapes. cards are thing and rectangular. Billiard balls are circular objects. When one realizes that these common manipulative objects are mere shapes, then we can realize also that we have a very powerful and useful tool. We can take these moves we already know and apply them to similar shapes that are vastly different in theme from what many magicians are using in acts today. This concept alone can expand your creativity.

Think creative and do not be afraid to try it. Your audiences deserve that of you and you will be amazed at what you can create... perhaps a masterpiece.

Unfortunately it is true. Many routines or acts we see today are copies of another person's work.

That is often the case. Or it is an act based on pieces or ideas or concepts of many diffeent performers. As magicians we may not even be as fully conscious that we do this. As we start to work on ideas, our mind goes back to what it remembers and what it recalls seeing in the past. It is those ideas it brings to the forefront. Being creative means to find ways and train the mind to break down these common ideas and thoughts. It is to train the mind into learning to see new ideas in ordinary things and in life around us. We strive then to look past the obvious or past what we already know.

I think part of the problem in creativity is the fact that people are not sure how to "think outsideof the box". It is easy to say or state but does one really know the proceass to go through tolearn to think outwardly. this perhaps is a problem that can be rectified and learned.

I am actually finishing up a lecture I call "Encore! Creativity in the Art of Magic!". I am very lucky to have done part of it last year at the SAM National Convention in Dallas and will be presenting the full lecture in Columbia, MD on November 12th for Assembly 141.

It should be a great time. My goal is to not only explain why people are not creative, but to show simple and easy steps , techniques and exercises aimed at teaching anyone how to become a more creative thinker. How you can directly apply simple techniques to power your creativity.

I will try and share some of my thoughts from the lecture here if anyone is iontersted. If you are in the area of Columbia, MD on November 12th, let me know. ou;ld love to have you in the audience.

Thank you James. First off I will be writing up lecture notes for the upcoming lecture. I need to get that done before the November 12th lecture date and I want to revamp them entirely with more information, tips and ideas on creativity. Once the lecture notes are complted they will be made available for sale to anyone who feels they could benefit from them. My pleasure.

Thank you James. I will at that. The lecture is on November 12th so I would think the week following that lecture I will make them available to the public. I will keep you informed. Thank you so much for your interest and support in what I do. I hope that my lecture and thoughts on creativity will open some eyes and get people thinking differently about their magic.
