I seem to remember somewhere in a post , I forget where , but someone stated to try using standard good old turtle car wax instead of fanning powder on playing cards as an alternative.
I have and still currently use fanning powder but preparation is a bit messy and I wondered if anyone has heard of using turtle wax and does it work ? I know I could try it out for myself ( I probably will ) but I just thought that someone would know a bit more about using it or not ?. Did you know that a magician invented Turtle Wax ! , another bit of useful information for you. Stuart

Stuart, I have not tried it but a friend of mine tried the turtle wax on Bicycle jumbo cards and he fan the cards well during his performance.

I know a guy who tried it, and he said it worked great, but was a real pain to apply and buff off each card, he also said you had to go real light with the application. Basically if you let the preparation dry and crumble it up you would pretty much have fanning powder again.

I use Cashmere Bouquet soap on the backs of cards. The soap works great for rejuvenating Invisible Decks, on untreated surfaces, because it doesn't come off easily. I haven't tried it on manipulation cards.

I have seen Makha Tendo applying bees wax on the cards. They fanned out well but they become shiny and for the feeling is not so pleasent. You may check yourself. he said it is the Japenese way of doing it.

The Japanese use parafin wax to coat their cards.
I have seen both Juliana Chen and Makha Tendo use and sell the wax (availablefrom Steven's ). It lasts longer then powder but must be cleaned off every 2-3 months. Some cards come imbedded in powder.(norm neilsen) Some plastic cards are slippery enough to use without any preperation.(peter marvy's were like this but no longer available. Murphys are similar) |

Which one is better for you? Using fanning powder or using wax(japanese style)

Ah well like most things in magic it depends.
I like the plastic cards for use as they are the least labour intensive. The wax takes time to learn how to use but lets a wider variety of plastic cards be employed. The powder also lets any paper cards be used. The wax is not good for paper. I have used all 3. |
