Hello C. Loubard,
The project was shot on two Sony Z1's. These discs are sold in standard definition, although all edit masters are kept in High Definition for future use, should the high def. market really take off. Best, Russ |

Learn 14 tricks in 24 hours? Realistically you wouldn't be able to learn one trick in 24 hours. Well, you could learn the mechanics of a trick but are you encouraging people that they could perform these tricks within 24 hours of watching the DVD or did I misunderstand everything?

Really depends on the trick, doesn't it Walter? To generalize that all magic takes a long time to get up to performnce speed is simply false.
I'm an actor. I've had to learn scripts in only a few hours and then get in front of a camera and make it work. Sure one could do the same with a self working trick.

Hello Silly Walter the Polar Bear,
To be honest that was the whole point to the project and therefore hence the title. Matthew was shown the effects one day before we shot them and had to master them and create some presentational plots in just that time frame. So yes, it is possible as Matthew more than proves! Best, Russ |

Maybe I am old school but a magic effect is a combination of learning the method, creating the presentation, timing, pacing and everything else that goes into making an effect as magical as possible. This will not happen in 24 hours. There is a huge difference in watching a polished performance of an effect that has been carefully fitted in someone's repertoire than watching someone fumble their way through a self working trick where every other word in the presentation is "um". It's a shame that people want to substitute hard work, research, practice and rehearsal for this microwaveable magic that is usually as convincing as OJ Simpsons testimony of his innocence. |

Well, that's another question all together. Although I must say that Michael looks to be in very good form on the demo. I'll be curious to read what people think of this.

It's an interesting marketing idea. But, at the end of the day the only thing that counts is the quality of the magic. And the demo doesn't really answer that question.
I personally have never cared for the type of demos that, for the most part, only show spectator reactions and very little of the actual magic.

Based on the Paryy Animal DVD set, I would say eh will go all out and make this a winner. The reviews will tell all.

Clearly what he is doing through these DVD's is demonstrating that with some personality and showmanship you can take a bunch of self workers and make them as entertaining as technical sleight of hand magic! |

Hello Everyone,
I think that some of you are jumping the gun here without seeing the DVDs! Matthew Dowden and these DVD's are far from "Amateur Hour". The whole point of this project is to show the viewer that even self-working card magic can be extremely strong to the viewing (paying) public and I think that's something that we can all easily forget. We also show that performed correctly, this collection of tricks can amaze and entertain any audience, which was why we didn't perform them in a studio "set-up", but rather to random strangers to get real reactions. Just because these effects are easy to do, doesn't mean that they don't have a valid place in any magician's set list. Best, Russ |

First of all, Mathew is a full time working Pro. Anyone that has his Party Animal DVD set knows he
1) LOVES magic 2) He respects the craft ( he works plots ‘till they are fine honed miracles and credits everyone ) I don’t see where he the ad said anything about not having to practice. I don’t think it needed to have a disclaimer stating that. Mike Ammar took some heat when he released his “Easy To Master” series. Many folks thought he disrespected the craft by saying these classic plots were easy to master. That’s not what he meant by the name and anyone that has that series knows the work you have to put into those plots. This DVD set was a fun challenge that he accepted to show Magicians that you can take some simple card plots and make them so entertaining that you could amaze strangers. The DVD is about REACTIONS. Anyone that has done magic and had trouble getting great reactions would find this DVD set of interest. Anyway, this is on my list ( so much is released these days, it’s hard to keep up:- ).

Walter,Tony and ASW, I don't own this or Party Animal, but watch the demos for both. Michael is clearly not an amatuer nor a bad magician. In fact it would appear that he is excellent at what he does! That is why I think this project might be interesting.
