This is very good looking...I'm really interested in this item. Also the price is not very expensive.
Cheers, CC. |

Hi All, I have to agree with everyone. This is a classy piece used in the 'old world' style. The tray is very well made and just plain looks great! I would recommend aging the hand a bit as suggested as well as using a ring on a finger, I did this to mine.
You can use this in conjunction with a rising card, self-lighting candle, bottle of wine ( airborne ), etc. You will have a ten minute routine. Highest recommendations for this effect, my hat goes off to Ray! Chuck Caputo |

Sounds interesting...looks good too.
As there are no threads,is the mechanism mechanical/magnetic or electronic. What is the minimum distance required for controlling the rapping/movements. |

This is the old Thayer method,
non-magnetic, non-electronic, so you stay near the tray. Won't say more in public thread. Magically, Walt |

Rapping hand UPDATE!
The nice folks at Tabman Tables / Fur's Class Magic, have been back at the drawing board again... I just received one of their new "traditional rapping hands" which fit the same board as their great "Dr. Hofzinser's Right Hand". Rather than a spooky old skeleton hand, this is a delicate lady's hand, cuffed with lace trim at her wrist, and gimmicked to fit their same board. Once again I feel this is a really great deal financially as most rapping hands are hundreds-and-hundreds of dollars if you can get them. Their introductory price is $125 same as their earlier version. AND if you have purchased their Hofzinser Hand and board in the past, the add-on hand is only $35 which I felt was good deal, then you can switch out hand styles for any bizarre occasion. The hand is good quality medium-hard plastic, and looks like a real dead hand. It is obviously a tad heavier than the skeleton hand, but works just fine. Go to their site and check it out! So just wanted to give the guys who liked this a heads-up....ahhhh a hands-up? That you could have either or both now! Magically, Walt |

Thanks for the tip Walt,
I am a fan of tabman tables/Fur's Class Magic. I have now completed my set...it's handy! Dr. Hofzinger's and Mrs. Hofzinger's hand. |

Yes, it looks great, but plastic? does the material used detract? or do you just not claim much age to the piece?

Well...I'll let you know when I actually hold it and feel it.
Yet, earliest form of plastic is 1855 and then took some leaps in the early 1900's. You could pitch it as a fortune teller machine's hand from the 60's. |

It is a softer but dense plastic that feels like flesh,
well dead flesh... It has a matt finish which could be worked with, adding nails or nail-polish, or aging, or age spots, or other coloring, or whatever, Unless you handle it, it does not obviously scream "plastic" and looks a lot like the old Thayer wooden one's in style. And I got hooked by the reasonable prices for their hand-crafted Rapping Boards. Hope this helps! Walt |

It can always be detailed to look like wood or stone, too.

I just wanted to take the time thank all you guys for the the kind words about Hof,s hand. I don't get the time to get on here very often as I also keep a full time job as building manager for a senior center. Not only do I spend a lot of time in my shop building the effects, but am also a performing magician. Many a time I get out of bed friday morning and don't see the bed again until monday night just to finish the products and to keep my customers happy.
About the plastic hand, it took me five months and a lot of wasted purchases to find a hand I could actually use. When I get the hands in I still have some work to do on them. Sure there are better looking hands out there but I wanted something reasonable in cost for you guys. A special thank you to Walt for his kind words. It's people like you who keep us small time builders going. Ray

For those of you who have added the ladies hand keep in mind it is heavier than the skeleton hand and should be animated gently. Will not be as lively as the skeleton hand with the old board. As of today all new boards will have a heavier mechanism. If for any reason you have a problem with your old board please let me know. Thanks...Ray

Hate to say this, but this is about the last week you can get these at the low price that they are at. In a week or two we will be raising the prices so if you are interested, you better jump on them now.
Thanks much....Ray

Give these guys a hand for the heads-up <grin>
I'd get while the getting is good, what a bargain! I'd have to add my two-cents on the better board for the heavier hand, my earlier board has been a bit strained with the new hand, but has not sprung yet. Magically, Walt |
