As a supplement to practicing in front of a mirror does anybody find using a digital camera, or USB webcam to be an effective learning aid?
I'm thinking about investing in one for this purpose. Probably a USB webcam for now. Does anybody have any reccomendations on a specific model they have found to be well suited for the job? Thanks, -Lloyd |

Many people use cameras to aid in practice. I want to get a digital video camera for that exact purpose but can't spare the cash right now.
As for using a webcam, you could pull it off but they generally are low quality and framerate so it may not be showing you an accurate representation of what a spectator would see. The human eye has a refresh rate of about 30 times a second, a webcam may be much lower and therefore will miss flashes etc... |

Iperna:
I think if you have access to a web cam, digital recorder, or camcorder it will not hurt you to use it to get an "audience view" you your routine. This will also help you with your patter. You can see where it is weak/strong, and where you need to work on your timing for misdirection. If you do not, I think the money you would spend on one could be better spent on books, videos, or illusions. Just my opinion.... |

Quote: Lloyd, I use the Logitech WebCam Pro 4000. It works well in low-light situations and has a tiny built-in microphone that works surprisingly well. Some other cameras (even other Logitech models) did not seem to work as well for me in the lighting of my bedroom where I have my computer.

Web cam is very good to record your practise. You can even send it to someone to check your move or routines for you.

I use a digital camcorder to practice with. It works really well for this purpose. A webcam is still very low quality but I think you could still pull it off.
Good luck. |
