Hey all, just hoping someone can help me with the razor blade illusion. I've tried the Tomas Medina method and had problems with the thread getting tangled up in my mouth. I used small, white cotton thread, is there another type that works better? I also borrowed the razor blade stand (http://www.penguinmagic.com/specialorderproduct.php?ID=3226) from a friend and the instructions that came with it didn't describe how to tie up the blades or what kind of thread to use. He was no help as he's never used it. I do have "Ellis in Wonderland" on the way, so hopefully that will give me better insight, but any other help would be greatly appreciated. -J.R.

Hey J.Robert,
The answer to your question shall be answered once you receive the dvd, which is by the way, the only razor blade routine that I currently perform called Ultimate Razor Blades. Tim also has some real good material on the dvd - you will enjoy it! Cheers! David

Dayton Razor blade Miracle is available from Leaping Lizards magic. BLades placed into mouth are the same blades remove strung together later. Mouth clean before and after. Stick corner of blades into an apple to create an ungimmicked stand/ holder. THere is no switch of blades. A bit of work to set, If you don't mind work, this may be for you.

I use Tim's method and like it a lot. It took me a few times to get the string action going smooth enough and the only "problem" I have ever had is that once I did change the string soon enough and it broke on the 3rd blade. Now I will only use a set for about 4 times through. I use heavy 'button' thread.
"What's your drug?" she asked. "Hope" he said, "The most addicting one of all."

You can also try upholstery thread and carpet thread if you want something really strong. However, for the thread you put into the mouth, I always use 100% cotton because it really bunches up well into a nice tight ball for easy disposal.
And UFO is right, three to four uses, then change the thread (and always wipe the blades fry after every show). Good eating!

Thanks so much for all the help! Kotah: I'm half-way through your book (if this is the real Mr. Dayton!) I picked up the book specifically for the blade illusion and have been enjoying all of your other essays and recolections--Thank you! UFO and FADE, thank you for the help, I'll steal some other thread from my wife's sewing kit to see if it helps any, the thread I tried wouldn't stay in a nice little bundle when I tied it up as per the Medina way. Tim, thanks for the response, looking forward to the dvd! One more question: have any of you ever used blood capsules with the effect? -J.R.

The younger magician whom I mentor did Kotah's razor blades last night after doing Shattered, and it was a huge, huge hit! It really works, one set of blades and no messy switches, looks impossible to another magician!
