I'm looking for a very portable curtain system, under $5,000 that uses curtain track, or at least allows for curtains to open from the middle (theater style). I need something at least 8 ft. tall, and hopefully 15-20 ft. wide. Any ideas? I'm aware I could install curtain track on a light system (supported between two tripods. I'm looking for something a little more professional that would allow me to set up a small theater. Thanks for your ideas!

Even though you are looking for something more "professional", the tripods with a truss is almost as professional as it comes. The main difference is that a pro touring show would use more heavy duty stands or truss towers.
Now, just two stands holding up a lightweight truss with a curtain hanging from it really does not look that good... So you have to fix it up a bit. Add a boarder curtain to the truss (I think that's what its called;). This hides the truss. Attatch the traveller to the truss, and the boarder hides where the traveller attatches. Also, you can hide the stands themselves with a leg. And then you could later add pipe and drape type curtains off to the side. I just made a quick photo of what I mean.... Hope you can see it.... The black is the stands and the truss- this of course would be hidden by the curtains. The red is the boarder - it hides the truss and traveler bar, and any lights up there. The darker pink is the traveller - it ... well...um.... travels. It could be made to not travel and just hang there. Tthe lighter pink on the sides is the added "pipe and drape" type of curtains. This does not have to be pipe and drape but could be on stands. This part can be modular, say 8' sections, and you can scale it to your needs. All of this could of of course be hung from the ceiling if you know how to rig things like this... but you probably don't because you asked about this type of thing hope this helps, and I'm sure a few others (with way more knowledge than me) will chime in. Opps, I missed something. darker pink would be the legs to hide the stands.
I did not add the traveling curtain. That would of course go in between the legs.... (I think that I just opened myself up to a joke here about having something between the legs.....) Scott |

Scott,
Great post! Thanks for your creativity. You're a much better visualizer than I am, I couldn't exactly see how this would all fit together. Thanks much! |
