I have an opportunity to acquire a Johnson Walking Liberty Shell. I am having trouble on deciding to either get the HEADS-Side or TAILS-Side as the Shell. Any advice or is it like asking do you want "6 or half a dozen"?? .

Depends on if you want all your coins from the same year or want to do some tricks with dates

I don't really care about the Dates.... Just want to know what is more memorable to a spectator's eyes (Retention-wise, that is).... What's more intriguing to them considering this is an uncommon coin to them??... A walking lady (most commonly they see some "Head" if a coin is HEADS-up) or an Eagle, which may be more familiar to them. Again, I don't know if I am making a big deal about this or should I just literally "Flip a coin" to help me choose which SHELL to go with?? .

I like the eagle side up. Maybe 'cause I use that as a "the eagles can fly from place to place " in my shadow coins routine.

I was fortunate to have several Johnson "WL's" to chose from the day I bought mine in a B&M shop and I matched them to my own coins! I think they do quality work! FWIW, The Johnson WL is about the same price as Jamie's single E[ (not Dean's set or his matched set) so give Schoolcraft a shout as he may have some already made up!

And I've been trying to sell a Schoolcraft expanded shell set in WLs for a month now...also a matching flipper from SC...why is everybody looking for these, but nobody's buying 'em?!

Price probably has something to do with it.

Speaking of The Magic Warehouse, Howard hand picks the Walkers and sends them to Johnson for the gimmicks to be made. In my opinion, the Walking Liberty is one of the most aesthetically beautiful coins ever minted.

I picked up a Hopping Half with Walkers. Came like the Johnson sets usually do, with a tails head. But if you have a lady side up, you can switch it out.
I like this Hopping Half set! But to keep on topic... I vote for the Lady's side up. Doing the coins across, or Matrix... and the lady walks over this way. RevJohn |

Long ago I had the opportunity to get both made by Connie Hayden. I found that it was good motivation to turn over the coin (and manage the gaff) when using a tails side shell. Sadly, I lost my XF/AU Hayden gaffs. I still have a VG heads gaff but I sure do miss my c/s and the two good condition ] Hayden gaffs. I get some consolation from being able to do most stuff using EG but those were wonderful gaffs he made.
...to all the coins I've dropped here
