UFC 77 Predictions
---------------Main card--------------- Middleweight championship bout: Anderson Silva vs. Rich Franklin The second fight between the two. The first where Anderson Silva destroyed Rich Franklin inside one round taking the title from Franklin. This really interests me. I have to say Rich Franklin never really impressed me as a fighter, he never seemed that great to me. But when I was watching the first fight between the two, I have to say that I thought Rich didn't look like he was all there, like his mind may have been somewhere else. I want Rich to win, I expect the fight to last at least 2 rounds, but I see Silva winning again. Heavyweight bout: Brandon Vera vs. Tim Sylvia I want to see this more than I want to see the Franklin fight. I really do not like Tim Sylvia. He is just a lazy fighter, especially when he had the title. It was like his train of thought was do as little as possible to win by decision. And I have been pretty impressed with Brandon Vera. And I want him to win so badly. I am thinking Vera would win by Decision or maybe a submission, but I don't see that. I just don't want Tim to get the belt back now that Randy gave it up. *see below* Light heavyweight bout: Eric Schafer vs. Stephan Bonnar I like Stephan in this fight. I wasn't that impressed with Eric when he fought Bisping. I'd say a high risk of Stephan getting Bonnar in a submission, but I think he's smart enough to keep this fight on their feet. I'd guess a decision or late TKO by Bonnar. Middleweight bout: Kalib Starnes vs. Alan Belcher I guess this is interesting, only because Kalib is Canadian; therefore, I see him winning. ---------------Preliminary card--------------- Middleweight bout: Yushin Okami vs. Jason MacDonald Okami is impressive but again, I have to support my countries fighters, MacDonald. Most likely a TKO or decision win. I'd say the edge to Jason with Yushin coming off a loss. Lightweight bout: Jorge Gurgel vs. Alvin Robinson Looks like it may be a nice grappling match. But I'll give the edge to Jorge. Decision or late round submission. Middleweight bout: Ryan Jensen vs. Demian Maia I don't remember seeing either of these two fight. So anything I say is just a guess. But I hate America so I'll go with the Brazilian Maia. Welterweight bout: Josh Burkman vs. Forrest Petz I have to go with Burkman, as I have only see one or two fights with Petz in it. And Burkman only has loses to big names, Fitch, Horn, Parisyan. Lightweight bout: Matt Grice vs. Jason Black I've seen Black, but not Grice. So I'll go with Black by submission heh. ---------------Couture News--------------- So in a shocking move, to which I have just learned about, The UFC Heavyweight Champion, 44 year old Randy "The Natural" Couture, walks away from the UFC and relinquishing his title. Stating he wants nothing more to do with the UFC saying he feels he has been exploited and under paid. Note, this isn't a retirement. Quote:

After said fight Randy was given a winning bonus. However, the UFC later brought in PRIDE superstar Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipović, generally seen by the public to roll over Randy after a fight with a man named Gabriel Gonzaga, who was expected to lose. But Gonzaga KOed Cro Cop, and was in line to fight Randy. At the age of 44 Randy defeated Gonzaga by TKO. So Randy defeated the man who rolled over the man they brought in to roll over him, but no bonus this time around. Quote:

If it was Tito I would have said ego.
Randy, well I chalk it up to just the way it is, and I also am disapointed in the UFC. They lose too many fighters of his calibur and have them talking like this and I lose interest. AT that point it just becomes boxing again. The expansion they are going through right now, for example putting the LOSERS on from the Ultimate Fighter series, really is disappointing. It seems as if they are putting out more fighters than there should be. EVERYONE is a knock out artist, everyone is a submission specialist. I think they are headed for white water and don't see it. Quality will dip if these things keep happening.

I don't think that it is a question of using the people who didn't win the Ultimate Fighter shows, but using them without giving them contracts. That was the point of the show, to win a contract with the UFC. I's assume the losers from the show are just on a fight to fight basis or something.
I was looking on the UFC site with Dana's comments during an interview. For some reason he kept saying that Randy "retired" when all he wants is to fight the best, in his mind at least, Fedor Emelianenko. Even though Fedor hasn't really fought anyone of that high caliber in a while. He is still thought of as the best fighter. And Randy thinks he is the best heavyweight in the UFC, and he is/was the Champion, so he is correct. At 44 going on 45 I wouldn't want to waste my time with rematches with that goon Tim Sylvia or guys like Antonio Nogueira, who had to go to a decision with a man of such lo caliber as Heath Herring... He is/was what... a 3 time Heavyweight Champion and a former Light Heavyweight Champion! He is the best, he has proven he is the best, so he only wants to fight the best. Some may say that it is insulting for Randy to think that low of the other fighters in the organization, and if it were anybody other than Randy, I would agree. And apparently the UFC was going to throw a lot of money Fedor's way to sign with the UFC. But I hear that they wouldn't have allowed him to compete in Sambo matches, so he signed with M-1, and I hope Randy gets to as well. Not to mention he would have probably had to have moved or changed his training camp. And another example of the unfair system they use to pay their fighters is with Forrest Griffin vs Mauricio "shogun" Rua. Shogun lost that fight but was paid a lot more money. I just hope Dana doesn't be a jerk and just have Randy sit around for the rest of his contract, if he is still under one. Apparently Randy is in South Africa shooting a movie so won't know until he gets back I suppose.

12 hours from now, and hopefully I'll be watching Tim Sylvia get his butt kicked.

Kind of an interesting night... Appears I had an accuracy of 4:5 wins:loses. lol
---------------Preliminary card--------------- Lightweight bout: Matt Grice vs. Jason Black The scores were initially announced as 29-28 for Black, 29-28 for Grice, and 28-28, and the bout was ruled a split draw. An announcement was then made in the arena that the scores had been miscalculated. Grice was awarded the victory, but the corrected scores were not announced. This preliminary bout was not aired on the broadcast. Welterweight bout: Josh Burkman vs. Forrest Petz Burkman defeats split judges' decision. Judges scored the bout 29-28 and 29-28 for Burkman, and 29-28 for Petz. This preliminary bout was not aired on the broadcast. Middleweight bout: Ryan Jensen vs. Demian Maia Maia defeats Jensen by submission at 2:40 of the first round with a rear naked choke. This preliminary bout was aired on the broadcast. This was pretty good, a quick fight, props to Maia. Middleweight bout: Yushin Okami vs. Jason MacDonald Okami defeats MacDonald by unanimous judges' decision. All three judges scored the bout 30-27 for Okami. This preliminary bout was not aired on the broadcast. Boy was I wrong. Apparently Okami dominated Jason to earn a perfect score. ---------------Main card--------------- Lightweight bout: Jorge Gurgel vs. Alvin Robinson Robinson defeats Gurgel by unanimous judges' decision. The judges scored the bout 29-28, 29-27 and 29-27 for Robinson. And man was I wrong again. Jorge just outright sucked tonight. He probably could have won the first round, cause he had so much control on the ground; however, he did nothing with it. He just shifted around in and out of Alvin's guard but didn't take any shots at him. And the other two rounds were all Alvin. Middleweight bout: Kalib Starnes vs. Alan Belcher Belcher defeats Starnes by TKO at 2:39 of round two due to doctor stoppage. Starnes suffered a deep cut above his right eye, forcing the close of the fight. Afterwards, Starnes, upon hearing disapproval from the crowd and his own cornermen, from their possible belief that Starnes himself elected to stop fighting, shouted that he wanted to continue, but did not due to the doctor telling him that his skull was visible. I have to admit it was a high gash on his forehead above his right eye, but it wasn't bleeding that much honestly. I really don't like that ref "Yves Lavigne" or however you spell his name, the bald guy... He stopped the fight for no reason to have that cut looked at, it wasn't even bleeding, at all! Now perhaps his skull was visible, I don't know I couldn't tell, but I do know they filled that deep cut with vaseline and then some. So maybe it was the white of that the ref saw... Starnes was losing, but wasn't being dominated, he was still hitting back. That cut would have probably still done him in in the 3rd round or so, early call I suppose. Light heavyweight bout: Eric Schafer vs. Stephan Bonnar Bonnar defeats Schafer by TKO (strikes) at 2:47 of round two. Bonnar did great. What else is there to say heh. Heavyweight bout: Brandon Vera vs. Tim Sylvia Former heavyweight champion Sylvia defeats Vera by unanimous judges' decision. The judges scored the bout 29-27, 29-28 and 29-28 in favor of Sylvia. After his win, Sylvia challenged Cheick Kongo. *sigh* This was boring as h*ll. And they had that twit "Yves Lavigne" reffing this mat for some stupid reason... Why Big John wasn't the ref is beyond me for a fight like this. The fool Lavigne just say there while that oaf Tim just leaned Vera against the cage 80% of the time... Now Vera didn't do that spectacular, he had a few nice shots and a few nice kicks but that is all. And Tim didn't do that much better... had some small flurries of punches, none of which did much damage. The rest of the time he just leaned on Vera against the cage. Vera totally ignored what his coaches were telling him to do as well... I hate it when fighters do that lol. Sure Vera didn't do great, but Tim wasn't above average either... Middleweight Championship bout: Anderson Silva vs. Rich Franklin Silva defeats Franklin by TKO (knee) at 1:07 of the second round to retain the Middleweight title. Wow... Silva scares me. He is unstoppable! He tore through Franklin once again. The fight could have been stopped at the very end of the first round. Silva hit Franklin with a right, and Rich dropped like a rag doll. He was saved by the bell. Rich landed a could nice punches but they didn't hurt Silva all that much. And you could see terror in Franklin's eyes every time Silva got a hand on the back of his neck.

I like Rich, but he does not seem fearless.
