That's a good idea. as far as oreos go I won't be doing that anytime soon =)
I use some rubber cut from a eraser instead of cork. often time there are some jokes that come out of it |

Yea, getting the cork right took a little while. The Poker chips and Die are a nice idea, and was put out by Tabman some time ago now, and I did buy it, which started my love for the effect, however, I didn't like using the $1,000,000 bill for the tube, as I live in the UK, so wanted a leather Cylinder for a little more class as well, then I didn't think the Casino chips would go with the Cylinder, so wanted the coins (Think it was an excuse to spend some money if I am honest).
I have played with it all day so far, and am slowly getting confident of it, but haven't shown anyone yet...little dubious on the ending...the handling with the last coin and transfer, but I might have to buy a DVD to help with that and make it look like it should |

Remeber the key to the first two is to -- focus -- not just look. I found that just looking is not enough but really focus will direct there attention more easily then you might think. if you need help with the ending (last coin) send me a PM

Ross Bertram explored that trick a long time ago and used a die. His version was discussed in the first big Bertram book along with his wonderful closeup pad.

Ok, so I am getting the routine, and yesterday I managed to obtain Carneys 'Misdirection' DVD which teaches it visually, so I think I will stick with this routine...however...as I bought the Thomas Wayne version it comes with Caps. Now, the Caps help it to be carried...however, I take the top off and place it in my pocket...how do I get the bottom one off cleanly without it all falling out??? I am currently tipping it on its side, so it is perpendicular to the surface I am performing on, taking the bottom cap off, and quickly placing it onto the table...is this what you are meant to do? (Sounds stupid I know, but just want to check I am doing it right)
Thanks |

Hi all!
Well what I like the most in cylinder and coins is the great freedom we have in the vanish section. I've performed Carney's routine many time and little by little I combined some other moves from other magicians...as well as my own ideas. I do a great deal of wand moves too, using the Williamson's idea of "gently knocking" a coin(?) with the tip of the wand prior the vanish > sound! I can't go to worrk without this gem and indee d I too need a workaroo for the clean up! Well Giacomo, I can't wait to see your work with C and C !! Be well my friend! |

The whole process is very quick. If you see the performance only version on my DVD, I do it there. |

Giacomo has come up with a killer routine, which he will present for the FIRST time at the New York Coin Magic Seminar, on Oct 27th. Still time to get in on it. E mail me for details, or check out the thread elsewhere in this section. You may also see Gallo do his, and we might persuade Dan Watkins to perform his own version, that had me totally and completely fooled. Actually, I remember that Dan had TWO versions, one I think he presented on his DVD. Roth has one too, but I don't think its on any of his DVD's. Hmmmm, WE are shooting another DVD......
S.E.M. (The Sun, the Moon, and the Earth) is a sun and moon routine unlike any other. Limited to 100 sets, here is the promo:

We will have a lot of stuff for the next DVD series that isn't done at the Seminars, and stuff done at the seminar that won't be on the DVD. The two are related, but NOT the same. Don't know if Giacomo will want to release his version outide of the Seminar debut, only time will tell.....

Carney came and lectured at the local I.B.M. (ring 122, Boston) meeting He spent a lot of time talking about this effect, and demonstrating the different moves and such.
One thing that struck me was the naturalness of the moves, and the subtlety of the misdirection. He has a video on the Ramsay effects, the coins and cylinder, and the coins in the hat. Let me rephrase the above, I was struck by the reasoning behind the natural moves. When I first saw him do the vanish something didn't look right. I think this is because I've gotten used to what a coin vanish is "supposed to" look like. Most folks close their hands into fists when they put something in their hand. But if you watch "real people" hold things, they often hold them at their finger tips, or a very loosely closed hand, rarely in a closed fist. So Carney holds his hands this way while handling coins, whether he is actually handling them or making them vanish.

Here is what I saw...
Giacomo made 4 coins vanish and appear under the cork in the cylinder while showing both hands empty, then reproduced the coins and showed the cylinder empty. I know, that is the basic plot. The difference here is secreted in the phrase 'both hands empty.' He has an amazing technique to perform an acquitment with a stack of coins. He uses his own wonderful methods of making coins vanish. Buy his DVD!!! I think any other differences were stylistic - in my recollection - but the showing of both hands empty was amazing. (Dan Watkins came up with an entirely different solution to that same goal by the way. It too was great.)
The real magic is family!

It looked good. Bertini has a unique set of tools that he uses. One is the ability to Classic palm extremely fast, and utilize is a finger technique to provide open hand displays, and transfer coins. Another is his edge grip work.
His vanish sequence utilizes these techniques. The parts that are the same in any Cylinder routine were pretty much the same here, after the vanishes the coins are in the cylinder, then the process reverses. Bertini also does a quick one at a time re-production of the coins before the final cork reveal (like the original Ramsay routine) as opposed to all the coins coming back all at once ala Carney, Gallo, etc. The only thing I did not personally like is the show of the cork under the cylinder after three coins have vanished. Carney does this too, and I never liked the incongruity of it. The coins are supposed to be vanishing and appearing inside the cylinder, so if you show that they are not there after 3 coins have vanished... and they are not supposed to be in your hand, it creates the question: "Where are they?" I just don't like that part. Other than that one personal pet peave, it was very good. He does explain it fully on the DVDs coming out. Dan |

I know Carney's reasoning, I just don't agree with it.
