I am looking for tape to put on my new illusion. I want the tape not to scratch but look like a paint job not really smooth like a flat color. Kinda like the material on my wiz cote. Does anyone know what type of tape this is? I was told in came many colors.

Sounds more like contact paper to me than tape.

I had some a long time ago. I remember the back of the tape having places for you to use as a guide to cut with a pair of scissors. I think this can be found in some craft stores but I cannot find any. I have seen some of this on some illusions. Its not shiny kinda like the stuff on the wiz cote. Thanks again for everyones help.

Check with Auto shops. They have all kinds tapes that look like painted stripes.

Sobrien is right. The adhesive used on Wiz-Cote and Chalet's Kub Zag is covered with an adhesive vinyl material called Tough Kote.
It took a very long time, but a friend was able to track down the their website a few years ago. If I can find it, I post it here.

Why not email George at Chalet and ask?

He is a great guy and I'm sure he'd be willing to help!

Sounds like a product called Fablon to me. it used to be available in loads of stores, now its a little harder to find. Our local garden centre craft section carries it, but it is not the original Fablon, and not as sticky.

How about the vinyl sign material. That stuff is made to stick in all kinds of weather, it comes wide. If you did a drawing of what you wanted, the sign person can do it up on the computer and "cut" it for you. you just take it home and peel and stick. Shouldn't cost much.

Dr Solar, you beat me to it! It suddenly occured to me whilst driving today about the uses of sign vinyl. I've used it ma couple of times in the past. I once covered a Blammo with it and with the left over I recovered the base of my Sword Suspension. Looked great and is very tough stuff.

Yes sign Vinyl is the way to go. If you go to a sign shop and take a computer disc with you most of them will be able to cut any design direct from the vinyl. A couple years back I had a couple of dragons made in gold...it was really not expensive.....

Actually DIck Blick IS the place, but THIS is what you are looking for:

http://www.dickblick.com/categories/signfilms/

For larger props I also recomend fabric, laminates (such as formica) and/ or thick upholstery vinyl which comes in a WIDE range of colors.

If glued down properly, the upholstery vinyl takes a real beating and can be repaired, just save some of the original vinyl.

Laminates (formica) are tougher but harder to repair and add weight. They are my preference for small illusionettes that get trucked often unprotected. All the old head choppers I used to Mfg were made with formica.
Leaping Lizards!!! Who knew it was possible.
