I would like to have your opinion.
This wonderful effect is available for 100$ at most magic dealers. For 125$ at Hocus Pocus with a double prediction plus additional tips on the tape, Making Magic. Where should I get it? I don't like building stuff too much, so I am skeptical about the video. What do you think? Thanks. |

I first bought the video and then I realized I wasn't ever going to make it so I bought the effect outright. However, it's valuable to see the actual performance by the inventor, as well as getting some other great effects on the video. The video is good, in general.
Is it the entire tape they're including in the package or just a list of tips on paper that were produced from the video? The video costs around that price, anyhow, so you could always get that later, if you wanted. The "double-prediction" isn't a real add-on to the effect. I *think* that's the standard for how they're being made nowadays. The other shops may also be selling this version, but just don't make mention of it. I'm not sure about this, though. Maybe it is an exclusive from HP? Maybe the shop I got it from got theirs from HP, so I got the improved version, too? Its benefit comes in repeating the effect to the same audience, if that's an issue. Brian |

Hi,
I have the video, and in it there is also a cool idea for an "examinable" version of the Chinese Sticks. My father helped me with the building of the Cardiographic, and all I can say is that although it took us some time, and I am going to make another bigger one, when you do it yourself you may get some additional ideas as you experiment with it. Good Luck!!!!! Ivan

Martin announced on his website that he gave the exclusive rights to Hocus Pocus to manufacture it and sell it. So you can get it from Hocus Pocus or Martin directly. My understanding is any other dealers are only selling what remaining items they have in stock.
Apparently, the new version allows you to repeat with a different card. I made my own from Martin's lecture notes. While a pain in the butt to make the first time, it is really simple to utilize now. It was just a painstaking process of making the gimmicked card to rise out, and cutting a template to make the outline. The best part now is the low cost of refills. If you perform this trick a lot it gets rather expensive to buy the refills. What I do is go to the store, buy a matching sketchpad with 50 sheets, and spend a Saturday making 50 refills. It took about 4 hours to color them in and everything, but it allows me to use 3 different cards. It is important thought to make a template out of poster board or something, so they will always look identical. Michael |

Get the video. Lots of other good tricks as well. It will take you some time to build your first one, but after that it is much easier. Be warned though, you will get frustrated the first time you try to make it. But it's a great effect, and for 1/5th the price, you can't go wrong with the video.

There is a trick called Drawn Out on Magicsmith that is a Cardiograph built in to a deck of cards. I don't have either effect but was wondering, if I buy the video for Cardiograph, will I be able to make one out of cards, too? Would it be easier than making one out of a large notebook?

Hi Webhead,
I have the three things that you mentioned. Drawn Out, Cardiographic and Martin Lewis's video. You won't find Drawn Out on the video. The principle behind Drawn Out is different from Cardiographic so you won't find out how to make up D.O. by watching the video. However, Martin Lewis's video is good and contains some good routines with props that you can make. Chappelly |

I have drawn out and have never used it. The deck has to be moving a lot so the gimmick is not noticed. Stick to the big version (which I also have and love).
