I had no idea where to post this - but hopefully someone here will be able to help. I know that you can make your own invisible thread from panty hose... but what kind, from what part, and is there any special technique to pulling it appart?

I hope that someone can help and thanks in advance! Smile

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but all you need to do is use black panty hose. I would think it would be easier to just buy the invisible thread ready to go, but that's just my opinion.

I have used the pantyhose thread before. I found that navy was a little more invisible than black. I think it was Finn John who recommended using navy thread and marking alternating stripes of black with a permanent marker every 3" to break up any continuous line.
All you do is take a pair of scissors and make a snip in the leg. Upon close examination, you will see very thin, individual threads that are woven together. Wrap a small piece of tape to the end of the thread and gently pull it out until you get the length you want. You will have an endless supply of invisible thread.

By a spool of wooly nylon thread. It is easier to strip out than using panty hose. I tried panty hose years ago and got frustrated with it. Wooly nylon is what is being sold as invisible thread. If you want a superior thread, buy Kevlar. It is stronger and just as invisible.

I agree, wooly nylon is the way to go. Does anyone have a source for Kevlar?

Yep...a spool of wooly nylon at the local fabric shop will last you a lifetime and only costs about $5.00. Just make sure it says black on the package because brown will look black under certain lighting.

You'll need to strip out individual strands, but that is easy enough to do.

I have a bunch for sale. It comes wrapped around a playing card. I will check but I think its about 10 feet on each. One single strand can hold a silver dollar. I will see how many I have left tomorrow in my warehouse.

I have both Mesika thread and Kevlar, and the Mesika is stronger than kevlar...

I've actually had good luck with light grey wooly nylon. I guess it depends on your environment and clothing.

Be careful of your lighting with Kevlar, it is extremely shiny.
